Help!
Facts: Golden Retriever, 11 years old
Large (size of a baseball) tumor on her spleen, and she's hardly eating
at all. Vet says x-ray shows "something" on liver, most likely cancer
because proteins also not right according to blood test, but won't know
for sure (and even then may possibly not know) unless he does
exploratory surgery (and of course removes her spleen). I'm thinking
she probably won't live much longer even in the best case (i.e., if
it's not cancer, which again is unlikely). I don't want her to suffer.
I'm heavily leaning towards euthanizing within the next couple of
days.
What would you do?

11 yrs is good for a golden. I would say bring her home and spoilder her
with treats. and when after a day have her humanly PTS.Say your goodbyes.
It's hard, but for her it's the best. It's us humans that suffer more when
we have to PTS. I'm sorry for your problem. It;s not an easy choice.

I have a dog (Border Collie mix - age 11) in a similar condition. She
was diagnosed with an inoperable spinal tumor in June of '04. It was
the size of a baseball under her spine and pressing on her colon. The
vet didn't think she'd last weeks - she's still here but not doing so
great. The tumor now is the size of a small cantelope. She is on pain
meds, but that's all that can be dione for her.
Give your dog love and extra everything (food, grooming, treats,
attention) while she's still here. Let her know she is loved every
day. Keep her comfortable with medication if you can. When she quits
enjoying the simple things that used to give her pleasure (going
outside, eating, belly rubs, etc.) then it is time to make the
decision. Don't do so without consulting with your vet, though.
Here's a link that might help:

Best of luck to you - I feel for ya. I believe I will have to make the
decision in the next few weeks, as well. It's killing me.
hugs,

I am sorry to hear about your dog.
Myself, I have 3 cats and a dog. I feel very strongly that if my beloved pet
gets so ill that the quality of life is nearly gone, I will grant them the
blessing of a peaceful death without making them suffer. I promised them all
that I would not wait until they had no quality at all simply due to my
wanting to keep them near me. Part of my love for them is the willingness to
let them go when it's nearly time, before they've suffered too much.
