Read somewhere, maybe in this group,  about some of your kitties
throwing up.  I've had those problems for 15 years with several
different kitties and NOTHING! helped.  But had to leave town for a
few weeks and left my several :-) kitties with a friend.  No One!!!!
threw up.  The secret:  He left their (dry)food down so they could
eat at their leisure.  No one horses it down--no one throws up. Also
he was much more consistent as to when he fed them --no more than 12
hours between feedings;  they *knew they would be fed at certain times
and didn't sweat it :-)  Since I've been home--it's three weeks now I
have not had a single kitty throw up.  No more swearing and whining --
and mealtimes are fun again.

Insofar as their alternate meal(s): chicken, turkey, tuna (I try to go
easy on the canned cat food), of course I  wait for them to get done.
But the dry meal where they ate their fill seems to ddo the trick and
gets them through the day so that they don't throw up this wet meal,
either.  .

Good luck.   I hope you all, two and four-legged guys, benefit from
this msg.

Something which might allow that and at the same time help
(ambulatory) cats eat less is to put the dry food up high on
something and provide a carpeted/whatever means to get up there.
That way they don't run to the food every time they see you move.
They do tend to run to the bottom of the climb every time they see
you move.

Good luck.

Nice thought, but Oscar occasionally threw up her whole life, despite being
free-fed dry food.  She never rushed to eat because it was always there.

Now that I've switched her to canned Wellness, she hasn't thrown up.

I think there are different answers for different cats.

Yea, I have a cat that throws up quite often, and all my cats have at the
food all day... He is healthy though.

Whoa!  I hear you all.  "Free-Feeding" as someone expressed it,
made ALL! the difference for my kitties.  Just wishful thinkin, I
guess, that other kitties might be helped as easily.

Good Luck you guys, and all your kitties,
Star E.

Free feeding made one of my cats obese.

The counter arguments are pretty weak, in my opinion. In Connie's
case, it partly depends on how many cats she has. Because one cat
continues to throw up doesn't mean that free feeding dry food is not
helping the other 15. That one cat might have serious problems, or a
problem which do not relate to free feeding. In Mary's case, Mary is
just trolling as usual.

If a cat eats too much, you can put the dry food in a place where it
has to climb a little (or a lot) to get to the food. That will stop
it running to the bowl every time you turn around.

I have been having trouble with Kiki and have been going through
many efforts to find a solution. The thought had occurred to me that
maybe free feeding was the solution, I have done it before. I began
a few days ago after your post and it seems to be doing the trick. A
full week will be convincing. Feel free to ask me in a week or two
if free feeding was the solution. I was concerned that she would
barf when free feeding started. She didn't.

Good luck.

Too late for mine, I think, hes been doing this, quite happily for 17
years,  goes outside, eats grass, then comes inside and throws it up on
the carpet, then back to the food bowl to fill up again, dont we love
them!

Then keep him inside!

I think free feeding might help if tension is the reason a cat is
throwing up.

Apparently my Kiki's vomiting problem was caused by
pressure/nervousness. It's not the first-time tension has caused a
serious problem. Providing a very friendly/accepting environment
has caused an immediate behavioral change and apparent physical
recovery.

So if you're cats are THROWIN UP!!!!
Maybe they are TOO NERVOUS!!!!
[teasing]

Good luck.
