Cat not eating well...

My cat is male, 3 years old...he doesn't eat much. Are there any foods that
cats just love to eat?

I tried Wellness canned, but he recoils from it. Whiskas is OK, he licks
the sauce. Fancy Feast doesn't get much of a reaction.

My theory is that I am not feeding him what his former owner did, but he's
adopted and his former owner passed away!

Also, is there a brand of dry food that I can leave out all day that is low
on ash - because he's a male, I've been told that dry food is a problem.
I've only had female cats for years...not used to health issues of male
cats.

Are you still feeding your cats refrigerated food without warming it up?

No, this is all fresh from the can...If it's refrigerated then I zap it in
the microwave. I do notice that the food has been eaten when I come home
for the day...

My guess is that he balks at first because the food is unfamiliar, then
eats during the day when he's hungry. Or maybe he doesn't like to be
watched while he's eating..the opposite of some cats who don't like to eat
alone!

I bought a digital baby scale, he weighted 11 lb, 11 oz on 3/14..I will
weigh him once a week. He does look fine, though, no ribs sticking
out..He's just lean and mean - sort of an athletic short-hair build..
