Some of you may remember that during Jasper's escapades at the vet and
at the hospital, he managed to come home with a cracked fang tooth and
one less claw. I think the claw broke off, kinda like a human nail would
break off the bed. I actually remember that the claw nail was bent
backward after the first day we took him to the vet. It just seemed like
the least of my concerns at that point in time! Apparently at the kitty
hospital, they noticed the bent nail and thought Jasper had done it to
himself there. They clipped the hang nail off and told us that it would
be fine and heal on its own.
Earlier today, I noticed blood stains on the bed near Jasper. At first I
thought maybe his gums were bleeding. Figured I'd just keep my eye on
him. He just hopped up again on the bed and left a fresh blood mark, so
we started the body search for the cause. Turns out it is the toe where
there is no claw.
Thinking about it, he has been paying extra attention to his claws the
last few days...I just didn't notice it was that one in particular.
Did a google for cats and neosporin and hydrogen peroxide. Seems safe to
clean the toe with the peroxide and even apply a bit of neosporin.
Anyone know of any information to the contrary?
Guess it is time for a call to the vet tomorrow!

The nail was probably evulsed which means it was pulled out of the
socket. It may need a stitch if it doesn't stop bleeding. Peroxide is
ok, but don't over-do it. You can kill healthy tissue with peroxide.
I would forego the Neosporin.

Whats so weird is that for the past 2 weeks since he has been here at
home, it hasnt been bleeding.

Exactly what I ended up doing.
