This is unbelievable.  The cat crawled into a dresser as his family was
getting ready to move from Hawaii to Kentucky, and was discovered when the
furniture finally arrived at the new home more than a month later.

Yes, moving from Hawaii to Kentucky certainly is unbelievable.

It's totally beside the point, but my main thought is--why in the world
would anyone leave Hawaii? Man, if I had the money to live there I'd NEVER
consider leaving, not for any reason, period.

Maybe that's why the cat hit, it didn't want to leave either (heehee). Good
thing it's okay, I imagine seeing it as skin/bones was hurtful to see.

Not to get too far off subject, but it's really not the dream-land it
appears to be.
I have an X that grew up there.  If you're white, you're the minority,
and outside the tourist areas you're treated as such.
Children had to be sent to private school, as they wouldn't make it
home in one piece each day at public school.
He absolutely hated it there.
His parents have talked about moving as soon as they can find work
elsewhere, but currently have a job that's too good to leave.

ObCat: I did visit his parent's place in Hawaii once, and they had an
adorable little cat that loved to be petted, but when he'd had enough
petting he took a huge chunk out of your hand with his teeth, quite
unexpectedly.  He'd purr right up until about half a second before the
bite.

I can't believe she didn't check the f*ckin' drawer herself instead of
"asking the mover". Sheesh.

Yeah that is pretty surprising. Even more surprising is that the cat
survived 40 days without food or water. I thought drawers once taped up
would be air tight as well.

I feel quite certain that a mammal like  a cat CANNOT live 40 days with no
food or water and minimal air.
This must be fake, or they are leaving info out.

Sounds to me like they were planning on abandoning the cat if they
didn't notice it was missing.

That was my first thought, too.  She knew it was the cat's favorite hiding
place so she should have made sure herself.  Otto loves to hide in my
armoire if he gets the chance.  A couple of months after I first got him, he
had jumped in one morning.  I checked it before I closed the doors and
didn't see him.  When I got home that night I heard a faint meowing, and of
course he was in the armoire.  I felt so awful.  He also got locked in a
closet a few times early on.  Now, before I leave for work each morning I
make sure I can se both cats.

Oooh, that can be so scary. We've shut a cat in a room for a day, I felt
so bad.

Now when we leave for any extended amount of time, we do a nose count.

Yeah.  There are several rooms and closets off-limits to Oscar, so of course
she desperately wants in to all of them, and then instantly hides when she's
in, knowing she's not supposed to be there.  I've accidentally locked her into
our walk-in closet and one other room a few times.  Poor girl!  She's never
had an accident, though.

The worst that's ever happened is when we had Eros and he got stuck in a room.
As I reconstruct events, he discovered that by chewing on a Camelbak
mouthpiece, he could squirt water all over the room; his own little fountain.
Well, if the worst that ever happened is a big puddle and a destroyed
(replaceable and cheap) mouthpiece, that's not so bad.

Me as well in fact Redunzel and me have a little ritual connected with
it. Basically the last thing I do before I leave the house is feed the
cats now Redunzel has long since learnt to wait for Sarrasine to
finish so she comes with me to the front door (after I've made sure
Sarrasine is eating- this is a certainty by the way but I still have a
look) and I let her out- our flat is in a late 1800's house converted
into flats and we have the middle flat so our front door does not lead
out onto the street. Redunzel then does her routine patrol for the
dreaded landing greeblings then I pick her up and we have 5 minutes
quality time for cuddles etc etc just the two of us before I put her
back in the flat and she goes and gets breakfast.
