About a month ago my 3 yr old kitten (who is inside) got a little too
playful with his brothers.  I noticed that night that it looked like a
little scratch at the inner eye (right where the eye comes to a point.  I
cleaned it up and it stopped bleeding. I thought all would be well.  About
2 wks later he developed drainage.  Just clear for the first week and then
off and on blood.  I had let him out on the patio for about 15 mins that
morning so I thought it was allergies when it started.  He had sneezed
some.  I kept cleaning the eye, but to no avail.  After 2 wks I contacted
the vet.  She looked and just cleaned the eye out.  Couldn't find anything
wrong.  Said that she couldn't even find the injury I had told her about.
Ran a test for cancer of the eye but came back negative.  She said not to
worry about it.  After 2 more weeks I bring him back in. I had a different
vet look at him and she said that his cheek was swollen and that it may be
causing the irritation in the eye.  She started him on Vedco Antibiotics.
2 more weeks and the swelling is gone and no fever, but eye still draining.
Clear sometimes and sometimes blood.  They had checked to make sure he as
making enough tears and found that wasn't the problem.  She said that it
wasn't allergies because it was only in the one eye.  I'm at a loss as to
what to do.  He's very playful and eats healthy just like nothing is wrong.
I don't know what else to try.  Any suggestions?  Also ran across a website
about Advanced Colloidal Silver that raves about clearing up all sorts of
ailments in humans and pets.  Anyone heard of it?  It's scares me that the
vet can't seem to find the problem.

Sounds like a corneal ulcer (which my cat also suffers from), which is
caused by a scratch to the cornea that becomes infected. Cat scratch
trauma is highly infective, especially to the eye. Has the vet done a
fluorescein stain test? If not, request that one be done.

Antibiotic drops and cortisone drops are the usual treatment for an
ulcerated cornea. Vitamin C is also helpful. Full recovery, while
possible, cannot be guaranteed. It's possible your cat may need to have
the eye tended to for the rest of his life. (I say this because that's
the case with my cat. By now he's used to having the eye drops put in,
and is very patient and still while I apply them.) But if left
untreated, blindness is the worst-case scenario.

Do you have a vet opthomologist in your area?

I was prescribed the colloidal silver (Silvadene) for my first severe cat
scratch (long story) and I was severely allergic to it.  It is sulpha type
drug (as I understand).  Be careful if you are allergic.

Hie thee to a veterinary opthamologist.  They will have much
better luck in dignosing and treating a 'mysterious' eye drainage
issue than a regular vet.  Your vet should be able to refer you to
one.

Eros had a "weepy" eye, sometimes clear and sometimes pinkish.  Sometimes it
would be weepier than others.  We took him to our vet, who confirmed that it
wasn't bothering him or doing further damage.  We did try antibiotic eye
drops, but he hated them and they didn't seem to help much, anyway.  Our vet
had already predicted they might not help, but were worth a try.

It's possible your kitty is just going to have a drippy eye, and you can wipe
it a few times a day.

Note: I am not a vet and I am not saying that your cat's condition is
necessarily anything like Eros'.  I'm just saying that in some cases, a weepy
eye isn't cause for alarm and it's just the way the eye is.  In Eros' case, we
believe he got scratched as a kitten and apparently his two inner lids healed
together rather than healing separately.

Buddha's left eye has always been this way (kittenhood to age 10).
Every night I wipe away the little boogie that forms.
