Kitty has a 1.5 cm mass in her liver....

Kitty didn't eat much last week..She had a biopsy on Wednesday..I get the
results on Monday..I'm pretty sure it's cancer.

The Friday before I had force fed her with a cake decorator..But it really
freaked her out, she looked terrible afterward and the next day. Plus, she
left diarrhea drops all over my bed, her bed and the floor.

Friday night I tried something new.....She sniffed her food...and started
EATING! She stopped after a little bit..So I sat down on the floor next to
her and put the food on a paper towel, clump by clump.  I think that seeing
only a bite or two on the paper "fooled" her..I was able to feed her half a
can this way.

Yesterday, Saturday, I took Kitty to the Vet - she had recommended
quartizone shots. She said it would help shrink the tumor, and improve
Kitty's appetite. Kitty's weight was 14 lbs last October, 10 lbs a few
weeks ago..now it had gone down to 9 lbs.

Last night when I got home I tried the paper towel trick again, and it
worked even better..I kept feeding and feeding her...she ate the same as
she always did...but sneezed a little bit as she ate. I think because she
hadn't eaten in so long the smell of the food affected her.

Hopefully she'll keep eating..we have another appointment in two weeks, so
my goal is for her to gain back some of the weight she lost by then.

As for Monday..I really really really do not want to do surgery. There's
always a chance that the tumor will grow back, and all that money and
trauma will have been for nothing. Based on what I've heard and read, this
could indeed happen - don't know what the statistics are.

What I'd like to do is something non-invasive - combination
Chemotherapy/Quartizone. The surgery would cost about $1400 total..The
quarterzone treatments every two weeks are $75...that's about 18
treatments..every two weeks that means 36 weeks long which is nine months
of treatment...

Although all of this is math, not medicine!

But I'd rather take steps to make Kitty comfortable...instead of slicing
away, looking for "cures" which may or may not work...

Good luck with your cat, it sounds as though you are working hard to
help her.  I don't really know anything about liver cancer but I'm sure
you can do a google search and find some info if no one here knows much
either.  I understand not wanting to do surgery.  When one of my cats
was diagnosed with lymphoma a few years ago, we treated her with
prednisone only and it did buy her some quality time.  We weren't doing
any other chemo, though, so if you do chemo and cortisone on your cat,
it may work significantly better.  Do you have any veterinary
oncologists around?  You might want to see one if the vet you are going
to is not one.  Let us know how your cat is doing and what the biopsy
results are.

Sorry to hear about the mass in Kitty's liver. Sounds like you are being
very attentive and helping her out by getting food into her.

Good luck to both of you.

Hi,

It's March 1, 12:51am...start of a new month, and new beginning, I hope!!!

Kitty gobbled down 1/2 can of food tonight. I sit right down on the floor
next to her, she eats on her own...Then I "coax" the extra bites like a
worried mother by putting the bowl RIGHT under her nose - She can't resist
the smell of the food.

I also saw when I got home she ate wet food from AM, plus half her dry
food...Great feeling to come home and see she's been eating "on the sly"!!!
Maybe I'll install webcam in kitchen to see what's going on when I'm at
work!!!

Quartizone / Nutri-Cal / Appetite Stimulants good drug combo to keep
Kitty going...

Get results tomorrow from biopsy (doctor wasn't in today)..Well, lets hope
for the best! But right now Kitty is doing much better...

Wonderful, David. I'll keep you both in my thoughts.
