This is a CAT group not a CHAT group

cls@calicocat.net - 23 Feb 2005 19:41 GMT If you want to talk about your religion or your politics, take it to an appropriate group. This group is for CATS not CHAT. Marking a post "OT" or "Way OT", does not make it somehow OK. For those of you who know better, handle it as you would a troll. Don't respond to these idiots!
In case you missed it, the charter for this group is here!

"This unmoderated group houses discussion concerning the health and behavior of domestic cats. Appropriate topics include the prevention and treatment of health problems and diseases; the care of pregnant, young, and geriatric cats; cat reproduction; heredity; first aid for cats; internal and external parasites; normal and abnormal behaviors in cats; techniques for changing unwanted behaviors; and theories concerning cat health, behavior, and physical characteristics."
My cats worship Bast! They pray to their food dish every day. Sometimes they offer it a mouse. I really don't give a damn what idol you pray to.
Yes I know how to filter.

"OT" threads happen now & again in all ngs I subscribe to, & although not always, often the OT threads are enlightening (Vs. pure flaming). One can learn something new, no matter if it's on or off topic. If not in the concrete sense, then of how human nature works & who's apparently thinking what out there in this wide & diverse world. IOW - can be an education in itself.

If one wants to read about and discuss topics other than cats then one should subscribe to the appropriate newsgroups or use email.
Just my opinion, not meant to be taken personally or to offend anyone.

Nah... besides, can you imagine how many posts/day, per hour, per minute... there would be, to wade & read though?!?
> If one wants to read about and discuss topics other than cats then one > should subscribe to the appropriate newsgroups or use email. If there were *no* - or virtually no - current threads that were on topic, & everything appeared to be OT, I could see that there'd be more legitimacy to the complaint at hand. But as it is, the OP says s/he knows how to filter, and there are plenty of on topic threads, so (besides my previous viewpoint) I don't really see the problem.

Declawing is a definite health issue. And generally people who post here because their cat died were here first because their cat was sick. Have a heart. Have you ever had a cat that died? If so, you may recall that it was hard to find people who understood your loss, unless they were cat people.
Besides, death is a definite health issue too. Kind of like the epitome of bad health, if you think about it.

koraky@gmail.com - 24 Feb 2005 01:25 GMT Declawing, yes. Declawing flame wars, no.
WRT death, I have a heart, but whoever wrote the charter did not think saying "I lost my cat and I am grieveing" and then all the regulars chime in with "you did what was best, kitty is in a better place now, blah, blah, blah" is appropriate for this newsgroup.
In other words, no one here cares about the charter because the regulars here are the worst offenders of it. And that seems to be OK for most of us (including me).

All Chats are Cats, but not all cats are chats. The reason is Chat is male in the french language. In foreign languages, nouns are usually inflected whereas in english the noun is usually spelled the same regardless of the gender of the thing.

True. Even though cars are usually feminine (in reference, in English), they're still cars, not carres. ;-) Whereas there are les chats & then there are les chattes. But there are only chats.

Gary - 24 Feb 2005 00:46 GMT Perhaps those who are bothered by some of the OT posts here would be happier seeking out or starting a moderated group where there would be more control over the content. As for me, I'm happy to select the threads I wish to read (on topic or otherwise) and simply bypass those that are of no interest to me. I personally resent it when someone tries to force their personal preferences on me. Besides, it's kinda fun poking a troll once in a while just for cheap amusement! :) If anyone wants to be a content-Nazi, then please feel free to go elsewhere and do just that! This reminds me of those mental invalids who just cannot manage to change the TV channel when something pops up that they dislike.

Yep, Check out the posts to alt.true-crime. Just mark it OT and post your religious garbage! What is it with some cults? They seem to think their misbehavior is OK, especially if it's done in the name of their religion. Their God is going to forgive them in the end anyway, no matter how they sin. Others know that they, and only they, are responsible for their behavior.

The original poster thinks he is at work and you better follow the rules or your next performance review won't look to favorably on you. I suppose the person doenst have many friends either. Either here or otherwise, what you dont recognize is that after a periol of time these people here become freinds and they care about each other so go the off topic posts once in a while and while I agree the my kitten is sick that recieves 50 responses or the pics that get 50 oh they are adorable I don't really care for either but hey sh.t happens my friend and long after you are pushing up daisies people will be arguing about the same thing. I bet you hate it when people mispell words and don't use proper punctuation also. Leave the exactness at work here I like to make a posting without having a dictionary along side me or an english dictionary.
Most of all as others have said and which makes me dislike you more than anything else is that you can just SKIP THE DAMN POSTS that offend you.........but no you would rather force you wants and wishes on other people. Loosen up a little and read only what you want.
I read about nine pretty active groups and rarely ever post to any of them but sometimes I just flat out get irked by doo gooders quoting from by laws........
