Well, I went to visit my little handsome dude! The vet techs walked me
back to his cage and warned me that he was very cranky and that he might
his at me and stuff, so I should be on guard. There is even a sign on
his cage "WILL BITE! MUZZLE MAKES IT WORSE!" Poor Jasper! They think he
is a devil cat! ;)
ANYWAY, as soon as I walked up and said "Hi Jasper"..even though he cant
hear me...I still think he can kinda hear the vibrations...but at that
instant...his little black nose started to TWITCH and he did his classic
little SQUEAK, which I haven't heard in DAYS!!!!!!! The tech said "I
think he knows its you!" "I never heard him meow like that!" And they
opened the cage door and he came right up to the front (with his little
catheter in his leg and the cast-thingy that covers it...so cute and sad
at the same time)and sniffed me and let me pet him! The techs couldn't
believe it! They said how nice it was to see him react like that! I even
got to hold him outside the cage and the techs got to clean it
out..making their job much easier and providing some much needed
relief/comfort to Jasper.
It gets better!
He was also EATING!!!!!!!!! They decided to try go give him some food
around 5pm...some turkey baby food and some crunchy dry cat food of some
sort. And he was chowing down!! And when I came, he started eating more!
And he had some water, too! WOOHOO!!! He has not vomited today and he
has not had his icky mucous-like stool since this morning. So, word on
the street is that if he can hold his food down, they will try to give
him oral medication tomorrow. And if he can hold *that* down...he can
COME HOME!!!!!!!!!
He did hiss a little when I had to put him back in the cage, but I think
thats just cuz he knew he was back in the stupid cage. But he calmed
down again after I talked to him and he let me pet him and kiss him
before leaving for the night.
I haven't felt this excited and hopeful in days. I only hope he has a
GREAT night and that tomorrow goes just as well.
I suppose now would be as good a time as any to get some of my work that
has piled up all weekend tackled. :\
Thanks for your good wishes and please, keep it coming. However, also,
please spare some of the healing vibes coming my way for Carol and Elvis.
fingers still crossed,
Pam

Pam - That's such great news! I'm so happy for you. That's so wonderful.
I pray that he will continue to improve. Thank you for your thoughts.
I'm so scared about tomorrow. Keep us posted. Carol

One of my sister's cats, Ed, who was a super-sweetie, but... could turn on a

"Warning" sign on his folder at the vet's. ;-)

This is excellent! :-)) It'll be interesting, if (hoping!) he continues to
improve, to hear what the vet has to say as to what helped him the most.

Do you have to go to work tomorrow? No vacation this week? Or just a case
of wanting to get it *done*?

No, no vacation this week. Today was President's day so I had the day
off. Back to work tomorrow. I have long days too because after work each
day I either tutor or have an appointment at the gym! Trying to burn off
that damn Ben and Jerry's medicine I had. :)

Boo, hiss. Districts around here (& in most of the - NY - state, not sure?)
have the week off. But a friend, downstate, has to go back to work
tomorrow, too - they have 185 days in their '04-05 calendar (required 180, +
5 snows), plus an extra 4 days. Those last due to some reason apparently
known only to the district...
I have long days too because after work each

Ah, but it was good medicine, wasn't it? (I have two cartons of Ben &
Jerry's sitting my freezer, & they're not full cartons any longer...)

My Arial (of blessed memory) was affectionately known at the animal
hospital as "the demon cat from hell." Luckily, so were two of the cats
of one of his vets, so she understood. ;-)

When we took Fugazi to be spayed the nurse asked afterwards "Are you
sure she's a domestic female? We've neuteured feral toms who were less
trouble" They gave her one dose of anaesthetic and it didn't work
because she was so hyper the only way they could give her a second
dose was have the vet approach her with a needle while two nurses held
her down and another nurse came up behind her with another needle.
When we got home she was as sweet as ever but due to the second dose
of anaesthetic she was rather ill for a day or so
Fingers crossed for Jasper and purrs being sent

Yippee! Phil surely was right to suggest you take him in. Being severely
dehydrated
is said to be similar to 10 times worse than the worst hangover you have
ever had. So your
boy is feeling better, and now eating on his own. That was really fast!

First of all, I think the squeak he made must be the translation to
MOMMY!!! in catspeak. And hell yeah he can smell. It's all he's really

Cheeks and I will Sacrifice the Rubber Snake tonight as an offering to the

I just called for an update!
So far no vomit! And he was eating hours ago...so that's gotta be
good!!!! WOooHooOO! No icky stools either. I'm not going to call and bug
them any more tonight. I'll start up again in the morning! :) Hehe.
Really nice people over at this 911 clinic. The way it worked out is
since we transfered him to the care of the intern/specialist who shares
the building with the 911 clinic, he stays at the 911 clinic at night
instead of being moved around. Expensive as hell. I've been calling it
The Ritz Kitty Hospital. Only the best for my boy! ;)

Yabba dabba doo! I can't tell you how happy this makes me! I've been out
all night with a ferals situation and very anxious to get a computer for
updates. I had a good gut feeling!
Hehe.

I think taking Jasper to an emergency clinic was much better for him than a
local vet - no offense to your local vet. Most emergency clinics I've seen
are much better equipped for almost any situation than local vets and have
at least one highly trained Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care
Diplomate/Specialist on staff at all times.
As caring as many vets are, most don't provide 24 hour monitoring in their
office/clinics even though many say they do. That alone justifies the cost
of an emergency clinic.
Expensive as hell. I've been calling it
> The Ritz Kitty Hospital. Only the best for my boy! ;)
Try the AMC! The Animal Medical Center costs more than a suite at the
Pierre! But seeing the cat well, eating, playing and purring again sure
takes the bite out of the bill.
Tell your husband not to look at the bill as the cost of x-number of nights
at the clinic, but to divide the bill by the number of days in the years of
happy life the treatment will give Jasper. Then the bill breaks down to
only pennies a day! If you want to really shut him up, tell him he spends
more on coffee and buttered rolls for the same period of time! ;-)

I practically teared up at this paragraph. I was away from my Francis
this weekend for the first time, and I missed him horribly the whole
time. He was perfectly fine, not in a cage at the vets, so I'm touched
imagining how much pain you must have been in to have him both away from
you and also so sick!
Purrs from my four and gentle forehead kisses from me for Jasper.
