Urine on porous ceramic tile and grout

Hi.  I'm in the early stages of trying to toilet-train my two small
cats.  They kicked some litter out of the box onto the floor, so they
assumed that the litter on the floor was an extension of the litter
box.  The floor, unfortunately, seems to be semi-porous ceramic tile
with lots of grout.  The urine was absorbed and the room smells
abominably.  I put some Nature's Miracle on the area and it was
absorbed too.  The smell has decreased somewhat.  My wife has suggested
squirting the whole area with a thin layer of Nature's Miracle, and
then using a hot damp sponge mop to spread... letting it sit until it's
absorbed and then scrubbing using an ammonia based cleaner and a scrub
brush.  Do you think this will be effective?  Is there something easier
or different I could try?
Thanks,
Elijah

just keep using the nature's miracle. Do not use ammonia. It will compound
the problem.

You could try the following...

Remove the ceramic tile.
Remove the cement underneath.
Remove the soil to depth of 10 feet.
The replace with new materials.

That should fix it. ;)

On the other hand, you could try spraying the affected area with "Simply
Solution". I find the product quite effective.

Once you get this cleaned up I would get some of that plastic floor runner
that you can buy and put down on the floor or else even a piece of linoleum
in that area.  This way if it should happen again and it may the surface you
have to clean will be much easier.

Go to http://groups.google.com and search for "usenetlyn" and NODOR and
you will find two recent posts I made on this subject.
