Tracking Device

I have a cat that perpetually likes to hide & go into seclusion. I don't
like that. Two other cats we have never do that, and don't bully the 3rd
one, and we'd rather then 3rd one be "out & about" to socialize with the
others rather than hiding all the time.

Sometimes she hides so strongly, you can't find her no matter what you do.
So I am wondering if they make a device--something you can hang around their
collar say--that can track them, something where you could push a remote
control or something and it could find them.

Tips?

OK, so I'll have to call PetSmart. No biggie.

Sometimes when a cat is hiding it just wants some undisturbed sleep for
a while.

When mine does that, I leave her alone... I suggest you do the same with
yours.

Let the cat live its life instead of bossing it around all the time. ;)

It can sleep anywhere it wants, it doesn't NEED to hide where others can't
see it. I don't like it hiding, ever, for any reason, not even for that.
It's not a sleeping thing so much as it is that she becomes anti-social, and
that's a no-no in my house.

Thanks to the guy for the link by the way. I did already plug in one place I
knew she liked to hide, so that's part of the plan also--plugging & blocking
all the hiding places so it's not possible for her to hide.

Are you afraid of your cat Larry? Is he going to attack you when you
aren't looking?

You are one strange dude.

No, I just don't like a cat hiding. I want it to be out & about where I can
see it, where other cats can socialize with it, I don't want it assuming
"hermit mode." So if it hides I want to be able to track it down and extract
it and place it back amongst the others as opposed to it being a hermit all
the time. Simple as that.

Don't you have anything better to do than worry about your cats social
life? Would you rather they fight?

I asked for a solution to a situation, and I got it. That's all I need, and
all that I (ahem) ASKED for too.

Ah, but you posted on Usenet, & on an unmoderated Usenet ng anyone may
(ahem) chime in and reply with whatever thoughts they have re: your post.

Well shucks, no reason to get testy, I was just curious why you can't
let your cats....be cats.
Cats like to hide. It's what they do. They hide. They sleep. They eat.

You *do* feed them and let them sleep, don't you?

In discussion groups, and this IS a discussion group, you will sometimes
get more than you asked for.

Unfortunately for you, you cannot control the whole world.  ;)

Hey Larry! No problem -- I'm sorry you're running into such difficulties
here. There's a tactic on this group that works exceedingly well if you
would be willing to employ it.

Just announce that you will no longer be posting to the group until
everyone stops posting to this thread, as you got the info you wanted
and would like the thread to die.

Works every time.

LRH is famous for these types of posts. Quite frankly, I don't know if I
believe he even has cats.

You really do have utterly bizarre attitudes. I am interested - are you
someone who likes everything spotlessly clean all the time, and everything
precisely in its place?

Oh, it's you again.

Have I mentioned you're pathetic?  Just in case I haven't, I thought I'd
mention it.  You're pathetic.

Exactly. Cats vary enormously in this respect. She's a cat not a
machine! Cats aren't automatons who behave like you want them to they
are living thinking persons and some cats don't want to be as sociable
as others just like some people are shy and some are extroverted!

It isn't a bad idea I suppose,  a "lo jack" for pets. You could track
down a lost animal a lot easier.
How hard would it be to make those microchips with this capability?

I would bet very hard.  Based on what I could glean from the AVID site,
they can only transmit with enough power to be detected by the scanner
in close proximity to the chip.
