Oh, Justin! Jake is a great name. That little face, those white socks! What
a gorgeous tabby, and personality plus, I can even tell from the still
shots. pic 5 and 8 are my favorites. He is a beautiful boy! Lucky you, lucky
him. He looks very happy and comfortable too.

Thanks! Is tabby a type of breed?

No more like a coat color type.

Nope, it's a fur's color pattern. Tabbies typically have the "M" making on
their forehead, for example, which Jake has. And they sometimes have a
"bull's eye" pattern on their sides.

Tabby just means striped. The little boots are extra!
Jake ought to have an "M" between his eyes, most
tabbies do. Cute, cute boy! Keep those photos coming!

Oh he is adorable!! He looks a lot like my old cat Amigo (RB). When Amigo
would get playful, he got what I called "cartoon eyes" because they got all
big and very round looking and with that eyeliner, he looked just like a
cartoon kitty and his nose would flush deep rose. Do you have pictures of
Elwood too?

Yes, there are pictures of Elwood there too. You have to get back to the
"main album" somehow.
There should be more of Elwood as well up later in the week.

Ohhhh! So adorable. You know that pic you have of Elwood's stripes? Those
are Tabby stripes, just like Jakes. It is said all cats are a tabby of
somekind. Even completely black cats, you can see the stripes in sunlight.
Man, he is adorable.

Both Jake and Elwood have the white paws.
Anyone know why they get them? Is it from some breed?

Probably just another inherited color pattern - have no idea if it's
dominant or recessive.

Cat genetics is fascinating and complicated as a female
may be impregnated by several males at a time.
Here is a really basic site:

And here is one I like because it has illustrations:

Jake looks very happy. He's my favorite kind of tabby, too. Both my Tiger
at home and Stinky at work have the same colors with white paws. Tiger and
Stinky look nothing alike, and neither really looks like your Jake either.
They just all have the same coat but completely different faces.

ooo! Another Maine-Coon-clone!
That's a good strong kitty you've got there. Let us know if he sprouts
a nice mane, ear tufts or pad-tufts (this is a little kick I'm on
atm..)
Congratulations!

Well, Maine Coones usually have long hair, but he is cute.

>Well, Maine Coones usually have long hair, but he is cute.
Henry was a shorthair when we acquired him (about ~1 yr old), but he
now has a coat that requires almost daily brushing.
I wonder how much coat-length has to do with genes, and how much has
to do with environment?
