We've posted about Goomba before. I just thought I'd post again about
how much of a personality he has. Not only does he play fetch, but when
any of us are sick (me, my mom or my stepdad) he will cuddle us to no
end..
He is especially important to me because I am 20, have been diagnosed
with a rare autoimmune disease and I'm clinically depressed. He is my
baby. When I'm crying to myself and just being myself up mentally, he
gets SO concerned.. He follows me wherever I go. It seems that the
second I get sad, he's there looking at me like 'What's wrong, mommy?
It's okay, don't be sad.. pet me! I'm soft!' and he just makes it so
much better. The look on his face and in his eyes is just one of so
much concern. I feel like I've known this cat forever.. He's amazing,
he's my best friend. He takes care of me as much as I take care of him.
After I'm done crying and cuddling him, he'll run off and do whatever
for a bit, but he'll check up on me all the time.. For more cuddles and
just making sure I'm not sad anymore.
I've never, ever seen an animal like this. Are all cats like this?

Nope. He is wonderful. Of the five cats I have had, only one
has been somewhat this way with me--looking out for me,
being really affectionate when I am sad, that sort of thing.
I would say you and Gomba are very, very lucky to have one
another.

We call that being a good Nurse Kitty. They do seem to know when you need
cuddles.

I had a cat when I was young (well, we actually had 6, but only this cat did
this) who if I was upset about something and went in to cry in my pillow,
she would come in, and poke gently at my cheek until I had to look up at
her. Then she would purr and love me up and I could not keep crying then now
could I? Cats are just very special people.

I started having migraine headaches when I was ten years old. My very
first kitty, Frisky, used to come and sleep on my forehead, which helped me
endure the pain MLB

That is awesome! I would love that. I usually put an icepack on my
head if I am at home with a bad headache. I like the cold, and I like
the weight.
The cats do have an unusual response to it though. They seem to be
confused, so they start sniffing at my face. It really tickles.

Wow. I know when I have a migraine, a weight on my forehead feels good. THAT
is a really good Nurse Kitty!

Fiona knew when I needed a shoulder to cry on, and also when I needed
a swift kick in the a.s. She was prepared to offer either. It was hard
to stay upset with her purring and getting in my way.

Fiona was the best. She would let me cry on her, and she always took
great care of me when I was sick. She was never away from me when I
was sick and awake. I assume she must have left on occasion to eat and
use the box, but she must have known when I was deeply asleep. There
is only one occasion when she did not do this. It was the last time I
was sick with her alive. And she seemed to be attempting to teach
Maynard. Every other other time, it was Maynard sitting by me with
Fiona somewhere in the room. It was so perfect a pattern that I was
lauging every time I woke up.
Unfortunately, Maynard was not the best student. He is sweet and does
show extra care when I am sick or not doing well. But not the the
degree that she was. Kira is pretty good too. Both get visibily upset
if I cry or am really sick.
And Kira actually healed a shoulder ache one time. It was aching
really bad, so I crawled into bed to relax. She came over and sat on
my shoulder (a place she never sits) for two hours straight. Never
hurt after that. I think she was an awesome heating pad, with just the
right amount of pressure :)
Now, if she could just do back massage...

My girl Festus plays fetch, too. If she wants to play with her foil
ball she will bring it to me to flick it across the floor so she can
chase it. I have never heard of a cat playing fetch before, nice to
know someone else does it.
She doesn't nurse anyone when sick, but she always sleeps with my
daughter. Lexie says it helps if she has a bad dream to have Festie
there to comfort her.
You have a very special cat!

Kira used to fetch. I had these little glider planes that you shot off
with a rubber band type sling shot. She would fetch those like crazy
til I accidentally hit her with one. They were kinda cheap, and not to
predictable once the tail fins were bent.

I think that this is what makes cats the companions that they are. If
you are upset and crying they try and comfort you and they can also
since when we don't wnat to be bothered if we are really upset.
I think a cat is better then a shrink anyday. You can talk all you want
and they will never judge you , they don't say "hey idiot had you done
it this way yaddy yaddy yaddy" They just look at you with those big
eyes and purr.

This is really true. I wake up sometimes with Cheeks sniffing my
breath. Now that MUST be unconditional love!

I always thought it wasn't particularly common when Fugazi did it but
Sarrasine also plays fetch. In fact she went one better, Fugazi used
to just drop whatever she was fetching and I would have to get up from
the chair to pick it up to throw her again (or else she, normally a
quiet kitty) would howl the house down. Sarrasine actually drops
things into my outstretched hand so I can throw them again. She likes
to play fetch

Kira started fetching when I was actually trying to get her out of the
way. I was trying to make the bed, and she had to be on the bed. So, I
would throw a toy to get her to leave. She kept coming back, with the
toy, and getting on the bed. So, I would throw it again. By the time i
got the bed made, the game was permanent.

Sounds like you have a great kitty! Not all cats are like this. Oscar is
certainly affectionate in her way, but she doesn't show any extra care if I'm
crying or unhappy. Eros, on the other hand, knew when I was crying and would
try to comfort me, which was particularly sad when I was crying *because* I
had to give him up ... (long story, not getting into it)
As for one thing you said ... it tripped a memory. When I was very depressed,
I had some guilt issues that certainly weren't helping. A good friend of mine
said to me, "Don't beat up my friend Monique!" So, I say to you, "Don't beat
up Goomba's friend!"
