When Francis was neutered, I also asked them to chip him.  I've been
trying to palpate the chip, but I can't find it.  Am I correct that it
will be in the scruff of his neck?  How big is a chip?

Just curious.

Thanks.

about the size of a big grain of rice. I can't feel the one in Mr. Bonkers
either. But I watched them put it in the scruff of his neck.

I can't feel Oscar's either, but I watched our vet put hers in.  It's applied
with a hypodermic needle, so it looks just like a fat vaccine shot.  *tiny*
They actually used to be even smaller, but they started migrating, so now the
chips are a tiny bit bigger, just enough to encourage some scar tissue to keep
the chip in place.

If it really bugs you, you could bring him back to the vet and ask them to
show you the scan.  They can run the scanner over Francis and show you the
resulting number, which should match the ID paperwork they gave you.

Oscar loves shoulder rubs, so I rub the area where she was chipped all the
time, but I can't feel it.

I'm just curious.  I'll have to do a much more *thorough* job of petting
him tonight.  Somehow I don't think he'll object.  ;-)

OK.  That'll be a while, though.  I am going to try to find it just for
curiosity's sake.  He's a skinny little guy with fairly fine hair.
We'll see.

Thanks for all the info from various folks!

others have answered, but additionally, our vet checks our cats' chips yearly
when they have their check-ups & shots...

Don't worry, Prscilla, these chips are really tiny and the vet
inserts them just between the shoulder blades and the head beneath the
scruff.
If you have any doubt just ask the vet or a welfare group to run a scanner
over the site.
Our Chloe has just had hers in at 9 y.o. Peace of mind :-)
