I took Hana & Sachi to the vet on Tuesday morning to get fixed. Sachi
came home at 5pm the same day. I brought Hana back this (Wednesday)
evening. Sachi was initially acting fine, but then he got a little
too friendly. He was obsessively licking Hana's genitalia -- Hana
would start walking quickly away and Hana would just keep his nose
stuck to her backside the whole time -- and then started showing
mating behavior again by trying to grab a hold of her nape any way
possible. I've had to separate the two once again to keep my sanity.
So is this normal for Sachi to behave this way immediately after the
two have been fixed? Perhaps it's going to take a little time for the
effects of their hormones to completely disappear?
Thanks in advance for any insight you may have.

The licking might just be him grooming her to get the weird vet smells
off of her.

He's just another horny boy, I guess! Congrats on doing the
right thing for your kitties and being such a good parent.

Yes, it'll take a while for his hormone levels to subside. My male cat's
levels took 3? weeks to drop down - his pee stank for that length of time,
post-neuter.

So does this mean that I'll have to keep them separate for a couple
weeks until Sachi can stay in a room with Hana without pouncing all
over her?

Just keep trying a little each day.

Years ago (decades, really), I adopted a street tom and had him
neutered. He remained an indoor/outdoor cat for a while and was still
mounting the female street kitties a couple of weeks later. The vet
said the ability and desire would persist for a bit, but mountings
wouldn't be productive in terms of kittens.

Come to think of it, I knew a neutered male when I was a teen who was still
quite the lady's man; he just never sired kittens. He was happy to go through
the motions, though.

Well, it does take awhile for the hormones to settle down. I did not have a
problem but I imagine maybe Sachi is a little more macho than Grant was.

All sounds pretty normal & will probably fade with time. Both my cats are
fixed & once in a while Muscat will still try to mount Chablis... If he's
successfull He then looks confused & non-plussed... "This is what I'm
supposed to do, right?"
So, is your NG name a B-5 refference? "No one listens to Zathras. Zathras

Absolutely. I love Zathras & B5 is one of the greatest series ever.
And that's one of my favorite quotes.
