Was wondering if anyone out there has had a problem with anaesthetic with
their cats or kittens. My son had his two kittens neutered last Friday.
Female ok male has been left with blindness. This kitten was a perfectly
healthy cat until then. Could not walk or eat for more than 24hrs then
managed to get up but constantly bumps into everything. Vet said his sight
might return but cannot guarantee it. Has anybody had an experience like
this.
Look forward to hearing any information.
Thanks

Doreen, I am so sorry to hear about your boy :(
What anesthesia was used on him? I did have a problem years ago when Ketamine
was used on my cat. She was extremely drugged for 2 days, growling and acting
extremely agitated. With the vet I use now, he uses Isoflurane, an inhalant,
which is safer than injectibles.

Oh, that's very sad, I'm sorry for the little guy. Do you know which
anesthetic was used? The only good part is I have heard that kitties adapt
quite well to blindness...after an adjustment period. Someone on this
newsgroup, Mary, has a blind kitty so maybe she will be able to help you. I
hope the poor little guy regains his sight, how awful. We all always worry
about getting our cats neutered or spayed but side effects are so uncommon that
we always tell each other not to worry. Here your son was doing the
responsible thing and now the poor little cat can't see. I think he (your son)
will have to be careful about rearranging furniture, etc., with the kitty but
Mary's cat, Duffy, is able to climb and get around quite well. If you google
this newsgroup for "Holly and Duffy," I'm sure you will come up with Mary's
story about Duffy, her blind cat. I imagine your son's girl cat may help the
little boy kitty get around when she figures out he's blind, I've heard of that
happening. Good luck, please keep us posted, and I certainly hope he will see
again. He must be so confused as to what happened to him. It's too sad.
