I get nervous when I don't hear anything. I'm hoping no news is good news.
Got one area of concern, am going to check with the vet on it. Last few
days, his appetite has suddenly gotten ravenous. Sort of like it was before
when he was so sick and emaciated, although this time he appears to be
holding his weight and still acting much healthier than before, I don't see
a backsliding in that area at all. My understanding is that with the
Prescription i/d, a can and a half to a can and three quarters is supposed
to be sufficient, but that is not satisfying him, it's taking two to two and
a half cans a day to satisfy him, and he's getting into Bartholemew, the
other cat's food a little more.
He's still on his meds ... the vet didn't get the Metronidazole mixed up as
well this time, it obviously tastes VERY bad and it's getting to be a battle
to get that down him (and to catch him to administer it ... I don't think I
mentioned, Moses has ESP and I'm not joking, I can just think "it's time for
his meds" or "it's time to go to the vet" and he will run and hide). Could
they have the side effect of ratcheting up his appetite? Or am I
shortchanging him in the food and trying to "follow the directions" a little
too closely when I should just be doing what's right for my individual cat.
The vet said let him eat as much as he wanted, but I've noticed also that
his BMs are getting a little more runny, although still more of the clay
color and not the tan color, and he's had a couple of big-time accidents
outside the box in the last few days. But his BMs also seem to be a lot more
regulated and not as frequent, it's not like the food is going straight from
his mouth to his rectum as it seemed before.
Maybe this is out in the ozone, but I was concerned that his system, which
is still recovering, might not be able to handle that level of eating quite
yet ... while at the same time, the cat was practically skin and bones
before and he's getting fat and sassy, so I don't want to deny him food in
any shape form or fashion if he needs it. Moses has always had a big
appetite, it's was always a family joke during his younger days of how often
he'd beg for food, so maybe this is just him getting back to "normal." In
his prime he bordered on being a fat cat, and I don't know if it's healthy
for him to get back to that level at his age, but again I don't want to deny
him something he needs.
Is there something healthy that he can "nibble" on between actual feedings?
