I clip my cat's claws once a month, but I realized this afternoon I
last hadn't since early December. One of her claws has grown inward and
is gently pressing into her paw pad. Unfortunately, when I get the
clipper around even the tiniest portion at the end she go nuts, as
though it's causing her great pain.

The clipper is *not* touching her paw pad, or is the quick that far
down. Before taking her to the vet I'd like to try and accomplish this
myself. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Can you try and do it while she's sleepy or sleeping? You might be able
to clip it before she knows what's happening.

I didn't realize a nail could grow inward in less than two months. I
guess my guys zoom around so much that they wear them down a bit. :)

Is it the style of clipper that's causing the pain?

If so, why not try a (human) nail clipper on that one nail?

It happened to my cat at 13 years old.  Her thumb claw grew in and became
painful.  I carefully clipped outside of where it grew in with her claw
clipper and then it just slipped out.

Of course I don't look busy,
I did it right the first time.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. This is the first time I've ever
seen a claw grow inward like that and it's unnerving. Weird thing is
she doesn't favor that paw or does she limp. In fact, she tears around
like she always does.
