Female in Heat: How Often

I have a female cat, and (admitedly) rather foolishly I haven't had her
fixed yet. How much does this typically cost for an adult-aged cat?

Also, how often do they normally dothis? In our case, it seems to be every 8
weeks. That sure seems often to me, I once had another female that wasn't
fixed and it was about every 3-4 months or so. 2 months sure is very often.

Tips?

>From what I understand, heat cycles can vary. I've read here that some
female cats can *continually* be in heat until they mate.

Sorry, I can't give help on prices, since my recent cats are boys. If
cost is an issue, see if your local shelter/humane society has a
spay-neuter program. They will often do it for a nominal fee. Please
consider getting her spayed soon. It will make her a happier and
healthier pet.

They *can* even stay in heat indefinitely. Bite the bullet and get her
spayed. You will both be happier.

That's was true of Biskit. What's worse, is she started peeing all over the
place. We were trying to wait till she gained a little weight.  The peeing
stopped abruptly when she got spayed. That's a habit you sure don't want them
to start.

It's been several years, but it was less than a $100.

Also, a cat will go in season more and more frequently, until she just
stays in season constantly. We keep them in a perpetual spring and
summer with our indoor climate.

Last I knew, it was around $125.  But in general, costs can vary quite a bit
from region to region, & even from vet to vet.

It may be every several weeks at first, but if she remains intact (not
spayed), eventually one heat will likely lead right into another one, w/
very little time in-between heats.

> Tips?

Make an appt. to get her spayed. ;-)  Problem solved.
