Hi,

I'm giving my cat flagyl once a day for 2 weeks. Right now I'm on day
two, and I was unsuccessful in getting the pill into her today (yesterday
I was partially successful). My cat Will Not Be Pilled. And I have 12
more days of this??

I'm wondering if the drug will still be effective if I dissolve it in a
good-tasting liquid and shoot it into her mouth. This method of giving
medicine has always been much more successful with both of my cats.

Yes, I can call a vet with this question. But not right this minute, as
it's 15 minutes past midnight. So tomorrow, I'll call the vet. But for
now, I still have to give her today's dose. Any vets here who could let
me know?

Thanks,
Joyce

Hi Joyce,
I'm not a vet but do work for one. And I would still check with your vet
about this as I don't know why your cat is on Flagyl, but we do advise
our clients that it is ok to mix with something like VAL syrup (liquid
vitamin) as it is a very bitter tasting medication.  Good luck, pilling
a cat can be quite a experience :-)

Don't I know it!  Kami can cheek a pill and fake a swallow like the
best of them.  You have to pill her and then make her sit with you for
a minute.  Most of the time, after about 30 seconds, you get the "Yeah,
okay, I didn't swallow" foaming mouth thing and she spits it out.  It
tastes even more nasty going in the second time.  If I could have just
one hour where the cat could understand communication, I would really
like to explain what I'm doing, why, and what she needs to do on her
end.
