I have a 3 month old kitten that has lost the ability to walk as she
now has only limited control of her hind legs. The vet performed some
x-rays and said that she is not getting enough calcium and provided the
appropriate medication (1 Ml Calcium twice daily, 1 Ml Pentavite
Morning) however I believe he may be wrong.
Firstly, no other kittens have been affected (all from the same litter)
and why only her hind legs. Secondly, she's been on her medication
for over 2 weeks with no improvement.
Her diet includes calcium rich foods, such as salmon (human), sardines
(human) and cream, additionally she is exposed to sunlight for
30minutes a day.
Can anybody offer any advice?
Thanks for your time

She may have some genetic condition that doesn't allow her system to
metabolate calcium. You might want to contact a veterinary university on
this since she is not improving.

That sounds very odd. She could have a congenital defect, but I would think
that would come up in the x-rays. Just wondering, why aren't you feeding
her regular kitten food? That would provide a more balanced diet. You may
also want to add some KMR (kitten formula) to her food for extra nutrition.
KMR is available at most Petco/Petsmart type stores. Has the vet checked
into any neurological issues?

She eats regular kitten food however our vet said to give her calcium
rich foods, I will be following your recommendation and addsome kitten
formula to her food. The vet has not checked for any neurological
conditions.
