Hello to all,

Can someone help me, I have 2 cats about 1 year old. They are brother and
sister. My little girl is fixed and very loveable. My male is also very
loveable, but has become a bully to his sister lately and has started spraying
or marking. If I have him fixed will the spraying stop. I have had male and
female cats most of my life but never had this problem before.

It will *probably* stop, but from what I've read, it is not guaranteed -
esp. if he's already started the behavior.  Otoh, about 30 years ago I had a
female cat spayed on the late side - she was a little over a year old &
already marking, & that behavior was no longer in evidence after her spay
op.  And when I adopted a stray male cat a few years ago, he was sexually
mature (pee stunk to high heaven); I had him neutered immediately, & he's
never sprayed.  Is there a reason your male cat wasn't neutered when the
female was spayed?

My advice: get him neutered asap.

what cathy said neutering will not guarentee he will stop spraying, but
the earlier you do it, the less likely he will spray. I have had 2
experiences with this, one cat I had I got him done at age 3 he still
sprayed but the odor was lessened after being fixed. MY kitten I had
done when I got him at 4 months. He never sprays. I think the younger
you have it done the better.

Very probably, with a caveat.  When we had our male neutered
at just over a year, he continued to spray for a short while after the
operation - and it tapered off over the course of a couple weeks.  So it
might not happen immediately if it does happen.

You should have the male neutered regardless of the spraying. Neutering may
lesson things a bit but it is possible after neutering that he might still
bully her. Some cats have A-type personalities. My Icarus was neutered but
still is going after Isis as he wishes to be top cat. He has not sprayed so
neutering definately helps. The other reason to neuter is in case he gets
outside and ends up finding a female in heat thus producing and unwanted
litter.
