I believe that someone on this list has stated the pet food industry
and the ingredients used in these products was regulated by various
government agencies. The prime agency mentioned was the USDA/FSIS.

I disputed this fact and to be sure I had the information correct I
contacted this department.  Below is the reply.
"Ms. Martin.

Thank you for your question to the Tech Center.

Here are the answers for your questions:

Yes, FSIS inspects meat, poultry and eggs at slaughterhouses and
processing plants that produce products for human consumption only.

And "NO" FSIS does not inspects or oversees any ingredients used in
commercial pet food.

I hope that answer your question."

You're welcome Lauren.  I also have letters from the FDA/CVM, AAFCO,
various state agriculture agencies in the U.S., and all say the same
thing, "the ingredients used in pet foods are NOT inspected.  I have
literally hundreds of files accumulated over 14 years and there is not
a shred of evidence that the ingredients used in commercial pet foods
are inspected or regulated in any way.  Labeling text is about the
only thing where regulations would apply.
