Our cat Stinky always seems to sense when we are about to go out, no
matter how discreet we try to be.  She goes from looking very content,
to very sad.  Can she tell that we will be leaving her, if only for a
short time. Our vet has checked her over, and she is fine.  She always
goes to the same spot on our bed, near a window, to wait for us. Any
thoughts on this will be appreciated.

Cats always know when you leave. I don't think it has anything to do with
psychic ability.

Of course cats are psychic. Why can you find every cat in the house
stretched out on the bed.... except the one that's due for a checkup
at the vet? That one is under the bed. <sigh>

Tell her you are going out -- about how long -- and that you will be back.
Tell her she is in charge of looking after the house now.  Then repeat
"we will be back"

If he knew I was leaving for the day, Tiger would attack my feet and
spit.  I guess he has given up now because he has stopped doing it.  But
I do believe that cats are psychic.

I think cats are just keen observers. Perhaps you always brush your
teeth just before leaving or some other similar ritual.

I used to play a game with one of my (now passed over) cats, ODIE,
whenever I had to go out for a while.

I took cat biscuits and held them in my fist. ODIE would then
head-butt my fist to try and knock the biscuits out and then after a
few butts she'd get the biscuits to 'fall' out of my hand and she'd
wolf them down. She'd start gentle and then butt my lightly closed
fist harder to get at the biscuits rattling in there.

I did this from when she was a young kitten and it got that if I just
gave her the biscuits she was not happy - I had to play the
biscuit-in-fist game before I went out. She'd run to the door before I
left for this and it became a regular ritual for us both.

The idea was to make my going out a not so bad experience for her as
there was some fun and gain for ODIE whenever I went out. Eventually I
did the same thing whenever I came back and she got to love the being
fussed over and given the treats at the same time.

I really miss that cat as none of my others have ever played this game
with me.
