I adopted a feral snowshoe siamese from a rescue about 3 years ago. She
had to be trapped, and was spayed there. It took me 3 months to gain her
trust, but she has turned out to be a sweet kitty.
This cat sprays--bad. She sprays every bush and weed outside, and
the behavior does not stop when she comes in. She sprays the doors, the
appliances, the curtains, clothes, towels--you name it.
She has been checked by a vet and is perfectly heathy. I do have
several other cats--all neutered. She gets along fine with all of them.
None spray.
Any advice on how to curtail this behavior? Getting rid of
her is not an option. TIA.

Medications such as Buspar (an anti-anxiety) or an anti-depressant
medication tan be used to eliminate spraying. If needed, the cat can remain
on these for life.

A friend of mine's cat pees on her couch every several months.
Anti-depressants apparently do help.

My daughter's cat sprayed all over when they moved, and continued to spray. He
started 2.5 mg Buspar daily and the spraying completely stopped. The only other
behavioral difference is he is much more lovey-dovey than he used to be, he's
turned into more of a lap cat than he was. He does not act drugged at all. I
was always totally against drugs for behavioral issues, but in this case, it
has worked out well.
She is going to wean him off in six months or so, after he is well established
in the new house and the trauma of the move is forgotten. Will let you know how
it goes.

Thanks Gail--I never thought of medicating her, but the anxiety aspect
makes sense. She was very wild and distrustful, and very difficult to
gentle. She still will not let anyone near her but me. With her feral
nature, I would not be surprised that she still is anxious about life in
general.
I will talk to my vet--thanks again!

You should also try Feliway and/or Comfort Zone. They are both
products that are supposed to reduce anxiety and stop spraying.
I am currently trying Feliway and it seems to be working, for the
most part. I will also use Comfort Zone when I can get some. (I
have to drive a ways or mail order.)
