Never-ending saga of getting the world's most finicky cat to eat. I
think I finally figured out what her problem was: She didn't like the
lot number. Even though I called Science Diet and asked if there was a
problem with one of the lots, she still refused to eat the one for
1/2006, but would eat the one for 5/2005. Now I'm thinking some of the
one's I took back to exchange for something else she would eat were
from the "good" lot. Now I've picked each of my nearest PetsMarts
clean of the 5/2005 stock, so this afternoon I've purchased a new lot--
2/2006. The suspense is just killing me... NOT!

Guarantee: Once she has you trained to pick that lot number, she will
stop eating it. They just know.

No doubt. BTW, she nixed the new one. I don't know what to do with
this cat! She's spoiled and cranky She just turned up her nose and
went back to bed.

I figure that they'll eat when they're hungry.

That is so untrue with cats and why you have to be proactive in your
attempts to get finicky felines to eat. There has been lots of posts
in this group about the danger of letting a cat go a couple of days
without food.
Hint - liver failure.

Yep. I'll never forget what happened to my Gnarly from
just getting off her feed for a few days. Very scary. She
never recuperated even though I did take her to the vet
to be rehydrated etc.

I just went through a whole bit of trying to ween my boys off the junk
(friskees, 9lives) stuff. They wouldn't eat any good food. But I stood
firm and tried lots of different quality foods and found one (Merrick)
that they like. So I gave them various types of that for a while, and
now I'm introducing other types that they've rejected in the past,
like Wellness. They are eating that happily now.
Of course you're right, any serious non-eating demands immediate
attention.
