The compress will help but a vet visit for some cat antibiotic eye ointment
will clear this right up. PLEASE, do not use human antibiotic eye ointment.
I don't know what your vet charges but last time I bought this from my vet
it was about $12.00 for a tube.

Does anyone know if a cat can pass conjunctivitis on to a human? I
know it is quite contageous human-to-human, but I don't know about
cross-species contamination.
Thx

I've never heard of this type of conjunctivas crossing from feline to human.
I've had several cats over the years and a dog who has had this I've never
had any ill effects from cleaning their eyes or giving them ointment or
drops.
Like anything you should wash your hands before treating them and then
afterward not so much for yourself but to keep from spreading it from one
cat to the next upon touching them.

Apparently.. Chlamydia psittaci can cross over to humans... in a mild form.
Nothing serious, based on my research, but, spot's advice about hygene is
solid & generally stops the spread.

Yes, they can. My vet said to be very careful and wash your hands after
treating the cat.
Probably best not to share a towel with them either... :)

My two kittens have had eye problems off and on, and one of the
ointments prescribed was Terramycin, and the explanation was that
it was effective for chlymidia. There is also feline herpes that
effects the eyes as well as the upper respiratory system (they're
connected by ducts, you might also notice sneezing). Herpes is a
bit harder to get rid of but l-lysine is effective for most in
preventing further symptoms. Any of these really do need checking
out by the vet so they can give you the right thing. One of my
kittens was checked for eye ulcers, and when none were found, was
prescribed an ointment with a steroid in it, but it seemed to make
things worse so I discontinued it and we went back to the
terramycin. All 4 eyes (2 kittens) have been clear for the last
week or so. Both kittens had been on a couple of rounds of clavamox
with no effect. Bigger male's problems subsided on its own, but
small female kept having problems. She was started on ClinDrops
Antirobe while waiting for further test results and has made a
complete 180. How old is Muskat?

First, all weeping and the swelling in the one eye, have cleared up as
of this evening. I think it's linked to the whole upper respitory thing, as
he had it (and an interferon treatment) while still in the care of the SPCA.
Muscat is coming up on 4 months old. I've just started him & Chablis on
a 'kitten immune boosting' program. According to my vet, both Echinacea and
Astragulus, in small doses, have the same effect on feline immune systems as
on human... ie; stimulate & strengthen. Muscat is just about to be put the
pet insurance plan I have for Chablis. There is a 21 day waiting period till
it kicks in, so, if I can manage this problem for that period with natural
meds, all the better.
OF COURSE, if it becomes an issue, if his eating, playing, bathroom
habbits change or ANY other symptoms pop up...I'll run to the vet, cost be
damned. That being said, I'm not a rich man & if I can do it the home
remedy way for 3 weeks, without him getting worse, I will.
