Abnormal Cat Urination

Plant Dude - 27 Dec 2004 06:31 GMT
I was hoping someone might have some advice for me:
My 7 year old female cat has had two episodes of abnormal urinating.  Once last week when I tried to pick her up she peed on me, and a second time tonight, she was just laying on a desk (while I was working on a computer right next to her) and just urinated.  She has NEVER done this before.  She has always either used her litter box or gone outside.  I am worried that something might be wrong with her.  After both episodes she seemed kind of unaware of what she just did.  Usually when she has done something "bad" she slinks around hoping no one will notice.  Tonight, after peeing on the desk, she just kept laying there in it.  There is no blood in her urine and she has seems to be drinking enough water and peeing normally in her box as well.

Thanx,
the plant dude

Excessive urination, usually coupled with excessive drinking can indicate
diabetes or the onset of a renal problem.

If she's not doing ither of the above in excessive amounts there may be
another underlying problem. Do cats become incontinent? If so, why?

Most definitely, you should take her for a check up at the vet.

Good luck.

And you know this, Matthew. Never take chances,
particularly with vital parts like eyes.

Make a vet appt. for her; she may well have a UTI.  Which is curable with a
round or two of an antibiotic.  Inappropriate peeing - & yet also going in
the litter box - is a classic symptom of a UTI.

I agree she needs to see a vet, but peeing and lying in it unaware
doesn't suggest a UTI to me, it suggests something more in the area of
petit mal seizure (although that may be because Gideon peed on himself
in his isolated grand mal seizure).
