Hi everyone ~

Xmas at my house, but I have Fatass and my brother is allergic.  I will
move Fatass upstairs with food/water/box, will sweep and vacuum floors,
rugs, and furniture, but what else can I do?

I will get under and behind couches, between cushions, etc, but what
else can I do to help keep my brother from being miserable in my house
for a few hours?

Fabreeze has allergen reducing stuff, does this work at all?
Thanks,

Bluesman

That's all I do when my sister in law spends any length of time
here; she's also highly allergic.

It's more what he can do to keep from being miserable. If he is on
allergy pills, he should make sure he takes it before coming over.
Also, tell him not to touch the cat, not to touch his face,
especially his eyes, and to wash his hands after touching something
the cat has been on and before touching his face. He could also
make sure to put the clothes he was wearing into the laundry as
soon as he gets home.

Sorry, no info on the Fabreeze.

You can buy anti allergy products, either liquid or wipes and use that to
wipe down the cat. It does cut down reaction. Make sure you have groomed
your pet first to get rid of loose hairs. To be most effective you need a
hepa filter in your vacumn cleaner. Have doubts the fabreeze would do
anything, and may make matters worse. A lot of people with allergies are
sensitive to perfumed products too. If poss depending on climate, open
windows for a while to let in fresh air, it may help dilute the allergens!

Find out what he takes for his allergies. If nothing, get some
Claritin. I am allergic and live with cats and never suffer unless
I miss a pill.

Is it possible to open your windows at all to let in some fresh,
non-allergen-filled air?

Is your brother actually staying at your house?  If he can sleep somewhere
else and give his body a break from the allergens, that could also help.

A thorough cleaning. Vacuum every fabric surface, including
curtains, drapes (or wash them). Dust everything thoroughly.

It can't hurt to try the Febreze, but the allergen-reducing
formula has an unusual smell, imho. (Smell it in the store
before you buy it. It's not bad, but it's not as nice as
the others.) I think, if everything is clean you won't need it.

And keep the Claritin handy. Benedryl is better for serious
allergy attacks. In both cases use the generic brands, which
are just as good but much cheaper.
