OK, here's a weird one for me.
Both of our cats have been known to pull just random objects near the food
and water bowls into either one of these bowls. Sometimes it's bits of
news paper, other times it's articles of clothing. Last night, a towel
was pulled into the water bowl, which wicked all the water out. =O.o=
I know how to solve this problem - keep things away from the food bowl.
But my question is simple - any ideas as to why the girls do this?

Why don't you just keep things away from the food bowl?

I guess they are trying to cover up the food. Umm, why, maybe to hide
it from each other? I'm sure there are plenty of other equally
arguable reasons.

Cats work in strange and mysterious ways.

Grant puts his pom pom bowl in the dish. But that's because he gets
distracted while playing by food and drops it in. I've had cats that like to
cover the food and drag a sock or towel over it. I think it's like kitty
saran wrap.

I can do one better in the weird department ;-)
My cat Loki this morning spilled my coffee all over my desk. He then tried
to bury it. What? Like I wouldn't notice?

Dash (RB) used to do this. She would pull towels, newspaper, anything good
for covering and put it over the food and water. I think she was trying to
hide it from the other cats. Although she used to do it when she was the
only cat too. Was she hiding it from me?

Not sure, but one night I went to bed hoping Sebastian would stop
playing with the poor mouse he'd caught. The next morning when I came
downstairs the mouse was thoroughly dead and in their water dish. I
transfered it to the porcelein estuary and gave it a funeral at sea.

I heard once that cats in the wild will drag their prey near their water
source. Maybe he's pretending to be a Big Cat. :-)

Well, he's no tiny boy, plus his early life was spent under a dumpster
in the urban wilds, but of the dozen or so mice he's caught, this is the
only one which ended up in the drink.
