My oldest cat died about a month ago.  My other cat is still acting very
strange.  He eats about 1/3 of what he used to eat.  He doesn't come in at
night and when he does come in he just lays around.  He hasn't killed
anything since the other cat died and he killed something every day before
then and brought it home.  He cries alot.  He's loosing weight.  I've tried
my best to comfort him.  I don't know what to do. Should I get a kitten to
be a companion for him?

Sounds like a case of the lonlies to me.  The question becomes: will a new
kitten fill the gap, or piss your cat off more?  That's one only you can
answer... Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I do believe that cats get depressed but if this is going on for a month and
he is clearly loosing weight you need to get him to a vet.  There could be a
valid medical reason why he is acting this way and not all because he is
depressed.

Or depression can even cause a medical problem. Have you been able to put in
extra play time? If he just lays around, can you cuddle with him or try to
get him to play? I think kitty probably needs to come around before I would
try adding a cat. How old is this kitty?
