Has anyone taken there cat in to be spayed and had them come home the
nextday with a upper respratory infection? I had asked why and they told me
it was due to the stress after surgery. Just sounded strange to me.

Just as a doctor's office is the best place to get a germ, so is the Vet's
hospital.  After all, that is where sick people/pets go.  The stress
weakens their immune system making it easier to catch a "bug".  So, if you
keep your pet in the house and don't have too many strangers come in, you
have a good chance of  them staying well....not 100%, but good.

Yes, stress can easily bring this on. Not uncommon at all.

Thanks you for your input. I had never heard of this and was just hoping it
wasn't something else. Julie

Hi Julie,

Over 90% of URI's are viruses. If your cat already had the virus in her
system, stress could cause a flare-up. She could have also caught the
virus at the vet's, although I don't know the incubation period. 24
hours seems fairly quick. You could probably do some internet searches
on feline URI and find out if that's possible.
