I was asked to post about Sapphire's experience with glucosamine.  Well, she
was on it for several months and I saw no difference in her going up the
stairs.  Then one morning she wouldn't eat her food with the powder in it.
Without the powder she gobbled up her food as usual.  So I stopped the glu.
Now I've been giving her cosaquin capsules for cats for I guess around a
month.  A poster here had said they made a stunning difference.  Someone
told me it can take months, though.  Anyway they don't have side effects and
need no prescription.

But, several times now, Sapphire has shocked me by appearing on the counter
in the kitchen.  She hadn't been up there for years!!!  I"m sure she didn't
jump there but came on either from a chair or the kitchen table which would
be sort of a leap.

There, now, a poster filled with glee because her cat went up on the kitchen
counter!

I did it right the first time.

I wonder if the former glucosomine you used was a poorer grade. Cosequin is
also glucosomine, but Cosequin is the brand name. It is very reputable. The
grade of the product does matter. Glad you are seeing results already!

What I had been using was Synovi-feline granules from the vet which had 225
mg of glucosamine per scoop (dose).  I don't really know one grade from
another.

A few months ago, Maynard, who does not jump on counters and has a
stairway to get to the bathroom counter, got on the kictchen counter
and ate every shamrock leaf. I came home to find a pot full of green
stalks.

My first reaction was - how would he know there was a plant on the
kitchen counter? He can't see it from the floor.

Then we realized that he begs to be held while we stand around in teh
kitchen. So, while he is being held, he is looking over our shoulders
and checking out what is on the counter.

The boy is smarter than I thought :)

Oh, and his jumpers still work on occasion.

Researchers have found some evidence that glucosamine therapy can
precipitate the full onset of diabetes in non-diabetic or
borderline-diabetic canines. I don't know if there is a similar risk in
felines, but if the pre-therapy clinical indications largely centered around
impaired mobility with hindquarter weakness, it might make sense to rule out
diabetes before giving further consideration to treatment with glucosamine.
