A stray kitten - about 4 mo. old male - has appeared at
my house. This one has some missing whiskers. His whiskers
on both sides are only about 1/4-1/2 inch long. Besides a
mischevious child with scissors, what might cause this?

Thanks in advance.

Another cat/kitten chewing on them.  It happens.

"Whisker loss can happen as a reaction to stress, some breeds (Rex
coated cats) and individuals are more likely to have problems with

Broken whiskers are *very* common in kittens. It's doubtful that they were cut
off.
