Paul O. - 20 Nov 2004 00:11 GMT Tonite while getting ready to take a shower the cat comes in as he usually does to lay on the edge of the tub or the sink counter while I take my shower, I turn on the water to get hot then turn around at the sink waiting for the water to get hot. When I turn around again to check on the water the cat is standing in the middle of the shower. Luckly the water wasn't hot yet and I had turned the shower head to the side but he was standing there getting his feet wet. Thought cats ran from water. Anyway after I finished I opened the door and bumped him cause he was standing right up next to it. Don't know what he is thinking, if he is thinking, but maybey things like this is why we call him Dufus.

Hodge - 20 Nov 2004 02:46 GMT One of my favourite Hodge stories is from my old apt., where he was allowed in the bathroom. (This one has too many surfaces he would destroy with his back claws.)
The sink was next to the shower. One morning, half asleep, I was taking a shower when something punched me hard smack on the nose through the shower curtain. After my heart started beating again and the irrational thoughts stopped racing, I peeked around, and there was Hodge sitting on the edge of the sink, looking mightily pleased with himself but also prepared to take off in an instant should punishment be imminent. I think I lost 10 years off my life that day.

My cat Otto is fascinated by water and has joined me in the shower several times. One time I had my eyes closed as I was rinsing shampoo out of my hair and felt something weird by my feet. When I opened my eyes, there was Otto. He only came in a few times while the shower was actually running. Usually he'd wait until I turned it off before jumping in. He liked to walk around in the water left in the tub. My drain is slow, so sometimes it would be a couple inches deep. It's all very cute, but then he gets out and runs through the apartment leaving puddles everywhere.

Cat Protector - 20 Nov 2004 20:19 GMT That's a terrible thing to call the cat. Some cats just like what water. My cat Icarus will often be in the bathroom near the tub during shower time.

I had a cat named Dufus. He picked that name himself. I loved him for 19 years until last year when he passed on. I miss him.

My cat, McDuffy, is a great big, fat, orange hunk. He's so laid back, sometimes he's almost comatose. I call him, McDufus, with love, of course.

He is 9 years old and is edging up to 2stone, currently about 1 and a half stone. He is quite big boned though, contributing to the size of him. He sleeps in a dogs bed with his own duvet (think I may have spoiled him a bit) but is a wee sweetie. Good cuddler anyway!!
J1Boss - 22 Nov 2004 17:41 GMT Skipjack loves to take showers! I think he really just wants to be where I am, but I leave the glass doors open a bit at the end, and he comes in and parades around while I shower. He's a very silly cat (but clean! ;-D).

Your post sounds as if you're proud of the fact! For his own health, don't you think you should be putting him on a diet?

But I'd be horrified if a moggie or other breed not meant to be that size stayed that fat. It's not good for people; why would it be good for naturally active animals like cats?

Mary - 22 Nov 2004 19:51 GMT > > Can you tell me how 2 stone and 1.5 stone converts to pounds? > > 28lbs and 21lbs (14lb in a stone) Thank you. My cat Buddha is HUGE at 17 lbs, but then she is a small-boned female. I imagine 21-28 lbs is really way too big.
Ashley - 22 Nov 2004 20:05 GMT > Thank you. My cat Buddha is HUGE at 17 lbs, but then she is a small-boned > female. I imagine 21-28 lbs is really way too big. NZ went metric about 25 years ago, and now we do all weights in kg, but I grew up with imperial measurements and lived in the UK for 6.5 years, so still find it easier to actually think about weights in that scale. I'm gradually getting used to thinking in kg, and now know my own weight in kg only, not imperial. Most Kiwis under the age of, say, 35, though would think only in kg.
Cassius, my cuddly cat, is, I think, about 7-7.5kg (15-16.5lb), and he's quite a big cat (but not ginormous). The vets suggests it would be optimal if he lost a kg or two, but says it's not essential, so I simply try to ensure he doesn't get any bigger. It would have to be a friggin huge cat for more than 21lbs to not be harmful.

Hodge's ideal weight is 10-12, I think. He's a shade over 12, and the veterinarian would still like to see him come down a bit.
