Cat Sleeps on Me

Ruby Tuesday - 17 Nov 2004 17:00 GMT My Siamese cat Mico is unusual. When he sleeps with me, it's usually on my chest, or on my side. If I recall correctly, my other cat used to sleep in the inside crook of my knees, or somewhere else on the bed. Anybody else have a cat that sleeps like Mico?
Thanks in advance,
- Ruby Tuesday

Very cozy and warm on winter nights :-)

Nickleby and my roommate's cat, Phaedrus, used to sleep on my head when they were kittens.
When Nickleby got older, he was fond of touching his (cold, wet) nose to my forehead when I was sleeping, usually causing me to shriek (which had no effect on him) and then let him get under the covers with me. He slept in my arms -- it was very dear.
Rosalie sleeps right next to me, near my head. When I wake up during the night, I will pat her -- she doesn't mind this, and I find it reassuring.

Although neither of the current two will. I suspect it may be related to the ever diminishing firmness of this sleeping perch. :(
Smokey likes to sleep on my feet under the covers. Silly cat. Cali likes to sleep beside me, sometimes under my arm.

My Cheeky sleeps on my hip, as in when I am lying curled on my side she drapes over me from waist to knee. She is small, though, just 7.5 lbs on a heavy day. Mico must love you!

But it sure is an uncomfortable situation, when I'm itching to turn on to my side, or vv - on to my back.

My little yellow kitty, Jezebel, will sometimes sleep on my chest if she's not sleeping on the opposite corner of the bed below my SO's feet. She's just about a year old, and only a little over 7 pounds so it's not so bad if she wants to use my chest as a perch.
My other cat, Ghoti (pronounced "Fish" -- you can figure it out) always sleeps on my feet or between my knees. This is good because he's a monster 17.5 pounds of black cat, and it's all muscle. I'd suffocate if he wanted to sleep on my chest! Plus, I never have to worry about cold feet.
Bug, our grey kitty, used to sleep curled around the top of my head when he was a kitten, but now sleeps under the bed.
Tazendra, our newest addition, pure white, likes to find the highest place in the house she can climb to and nap there. Every morning, however, she purrs, poofs up just the base of her tail, and jumps in bed for some serious finger-nibbling.

As a kitten, she would sit on my head and lick/paw my hair, but I wasn't too fond of that and managed to convince her not to do so.
It's really awkward when I'm lying on my side and she decides to sleep on top of my waist!

Shaina used to sleep on my chest, almost on my neck when she was tiny. she also would sleep right between my shoulder and my neck, on the side. as she grew, she stopped doing that, which is a good thing, since her sitting on my neck now would suffocate me. she does sleep on our bed, but if we move too much for her liking, she leaves. i kinda miss the little fur ball on my neck.

Holly often does that when I'm in bed (and other occasions will just claim a spot beside me); Duffy invariably climbs on top of me when I lie on the sofa either to sleep or to watch TV. They are my true loves.

Betsy - 18 Nov 2004 03:22 GMT I am usually weighed down by 3 of them. Then there are the two who insist on getting under the covers (Mickey goes low, Callie goes high) and the three who must sleep next to my face (and often squabble across me as there is only room for two) and then there's the one who insists on laying across my feet. It does get hard to get a good night's sleep!
Of course this is only in winter. In summer, most of them prefer to sleep elsewhere. Thank goodness.

Grant sits in the catnapper in the window all night and Sugar varies her routine. Come fall though, all three are on me and *usually* Pearl curls up on my left side and lays her head in my hand for a full five minutes. Meanwhile Grant come up on my right side and falls over. It's one of my favorite things. Whump! He just topples over! Sugar lays across my right foot. Always has chosen that spot since she was a wee kitten. Of course, around 2:30 nature calls and then I usually move to the couch. Mostly it's because my arm will fall asleep if I lay on my side in the bed but it does not on the couch. I need to invest in either a new matress or one of those memory matress covers I think. The cats often just stay in bed.

They only do this when it's cold. Tribbles was so sharp that she could stay on him while he turned over. We compared her to those people that get into logrolling contests. she never lost her footing just kept her grip. Nanette comes in in the middle of the night when the wood stove cools off. She perches right on top of him for the rest of the night. She's not as good as Tribbles was. If he moves, she has to get down and climb up again. he complains about it but I know he really loves it.

This is so funny, she has it down to a science! Human rolling!

One of my current cats doesn't sleep on me, but she kneads her paws into my stomach if I'm laying in bed. I think she's trying to give me a hint ;)

If I recall correctly, my other cat used to sleep in > the inside crook of my knees, or somewhere else on the bed. Anybody else > have a cat that sleeps like Mico? Ho yes. My small-but-enthusiastic cat likes sleeping on my chest (in the cooler months, anyway), with his nose touching mine. This is all well and good, apart from:
1. If I move more than a micron, said cat will start purring and attempting to shove his head up my nostrils. He might also do a lap of the bed before returning to the chest perch.
2. In the morning he dribbles profusely in anticipation of food. Having a cat with his head up your nose dribbling continually - well, it's not quite as civilised as being woken by an alarm clock.
If it gets especially cold during the night, he'll often squeeze under the covers and sleep under my knees. I have woken in the night with apparently my entire weight on the little bugger and he's still catching cat Z's.
Mind you, this is a cat of great sillyness. He likes sitting on my shoulder while I eat and occasionally trying to snare a mouthful. Once he was sitting on my shoulder while I was cleaning a litterbox. Decided to jump vertically in the air, landing on my ear with all claws out. Blood everywhere. My other cat cleaned up by licking said blood. Symbiotic.
My other cat has more decorum anyway. He just settles next to my head, and wakes me in the morning by jumping onto my bollocks.
Steve.

Yes, but at least your cat doesn't like to sit with her butt in the direction of your face. My cat insists on this while being petted, or even just chilling out near me. Typically she must be close enough to tickle my nose or thwap my face with every tail twitch, or it's no fun.

If I have to get up in the night, I contort all ways as to not disturb her. She also sleeps under the covers with us the odd time but tends to bite my husband's a.s so he keeps an eye on her.
Stella sleeps on my upper chest and throat... if I am on my side, she sleeps on my hip. If my husband has his hand on me, she head buts it out of the way and settles down where his hand was.
