I have a five year old cat that for about the last year has frequently not
used the litter box to urinate.
Vet has tried antibiotics, no help. I have moved litter box to the spot she
uses to urinate most ofeten when its not in the litter box. Litter box is
cleaned every day, sometimes twice a day.
Any suggestions? I am not sure what to do next.
Thank you

She should have at least two litter boxes. If this does not work, have your
vet prescribe an anti-anxiety or anti-depressant medication.

Has her urine actually be analyzed? she may have interstitial cystitis. It
is cyclical and can resolve itself, but is painful when they are having
trouble. The best treatment is wet food, premium (something like Wellnesss,
Petguard, Innova etc. not supermarket brand). Keeping environment stress
freee as possible. Feliway diffuser may help. Give her an extra box. In
severe cases the medication Amitryptiline can be helpful. New research shows
stress management is a big help. The central nervous system and hormones can
be involved. There is a big similarity between human IC and feline. Ask your
vet for the full Tony Buffington article. It is what my boy Grant has, but
since being on mostly wet food, and having Feliway diffusers around we have
not had an episode in over a year. I highly suspect that Grant's apparent
allergies (he gets very, very twitchy and runs around like mad) is also
connected somehow. This behaviour has also improved. Here is a pretty good
article on it. http://www.winnfelinehealth.org/health/urinary-tract.html

One thing to try is to simply buy a new litterbox. This happened to a
neighbor of mine -- suddenly the cat avoided the box and she didn't know
why -- she just bought a new box and the problem was solved. The cat had
just taken a dislike to the old box for some reason.
