The blood tests showed normal. Going to check again in 3 weeks to see if
still normal. Vet wants to put him on a low calorie diet anyway. So now the
problem is the changing of his food, never easy. Going to use Walthams Royal
Canine low calorie, or whatever it's called. Anyway just relieved about the
diabetes. Thanks for all your input.

Paul,
That is great news. You must be so relieved! :-)
Now just enjoy Dufus. BTW that's a great name. Is there a story behind
it?

The wife just named him that because he acted like such a......well, Dufus
when a little kitty. I just thought he was being a .... well, a cat.
Yeah! I'm soooo glad you and your cat do not have to go through that.

If the 'canine' in "Walthams Royal Canine" is no mistake, you might want to
give your choice of food some further consideration. Unlike dogs, cats are
true ('obligate') carnivores, and they have an absolute dietary requirement
for animal tissue in order to ensure adequate supplies of the amino acids
that are essential for their good health. Cat foods are formulated to meet
this requirement, whereas dog foods, as a rule, are not ... cats on a
dog-food diet will inevitably fall in to poor health and eventually succumb
to renal, hepatic, and cardio-pulmonary complications. For more information,

It really is a cat food. Royal Kanin. The company started as a dog food
company in Denmark or somewhere. However, Mars Company bought it a couple of
years ago. I do not know if it is as high quality as it used to be, but it
is considered a premium food. I think they even have wet food packets now.
Which Paul should consider.

We are feeding a combination of the wet(pouch) and some dry.

Whoops ... and to add insult to injury, they stock the brand at BOTH Petco
and Petsmart! Apologies for the second-guessing.
