We have 2 new 8 week old kittens who are making friends with our 8
year old cat.  This is going well, but my concern is that the male
kitten has been trying to nurse off of his sister (same litter).  We
have intervened, and found the female's stomach wet, and swollen.  Is
there anything we can do to stop the male kitten from trying to nurse
his sister?  We would appreciate any advice.

I wouldn't overly worry about him trying to nurse off his littermate.  But
maybe her swollen belly has to do w/ worms?  Have they been checked by a
vet?

I guess I shouldn't have used the word "swollen," since it is really
just reddened from where the other kitten was sucking.  And,
unfortunately, the mother cat was killed by a car when the kittens
were about 6-1/2 weeks old.  My co-worker, who had taken in the mother
cat and was taking care of the kittens had them eating before then,
and they were only occasionally nursing.  The female kitten doesn't
seem to mind the nursing attempts, I just wanted to make sure that she
wasn't being harmed.

Very sad. If only she had kept the mother cat inside.

Where is their mother? It sounds like they need her.
