cats flying cargo

...often arrive at destination and arrive alive, having suffered an enormous
trauma. The noise of an airplane is deafening. Never mind unfamiliar
surroundings, extremes of temperature and being handled roughly as 'baggage'.
Sometimes they go to very different destinations because a baggage handler
cannot read.....like the one I saw left in its carrier on the tarmac in Alaska
in January, labeled to go to Alabama. If the cat dies during the trip, the
airline says 'sorry'. That's not quite good enough, is it?
Persians and other cats with flat faces have enough respiratory difficulties
without adding low-or no-air pressure at 30,000 feet.
A car trip, if at all possible, is unquestionably preferable.
If cats must fly, they should go in the cabin with their people. This takes a
lot of advance arranging, and buying soft-sided carriers.... but we owe it to
pets.

Well now, Rob, not everyone was reading the group a few
weeks ago. We get lots of repeat info and questions. That's
just the way Usenet is. There are only, after all, a finite
number of topics regarding cats to discuss. If we become
one of those places where every repeat question gets "Do
a Google search we already talked about that" we won't
have anything to talk about at all. (Another version is "Read the FAQ."
A very good reason not to HAVE a FAQ.)

True, but this post just came out of left field in response to nothing.

On another newsgroup about cats, somebody is asking about professional pet
shippers. In case that person monitors this one too, I posted here too.
Chill, Rob!

Well, you would be happy to have had the advice
"out of the blue" if you were one of the heartsick
people with cats the airlines lost.

Or you would just be reminded of your loss.... either way, the advice is
fine, it's just a peeve
when someone comes out of the woodwork with an lecture type post targeted at
everyone
(most of whom here either know better or would ask when the need arises or
would use
google to search for info).  Normally I'd just ignore it, today for some
reason, in bothered
me enough to open my keyboard :P.

You are such a princess. I'm so happy you're ignoring this topic now,
so you won't be offended by this observation.
