Francis tested negative for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS Wednesday,
so today is the beginning of his integration into the general population
of cats at my house.
I brought him down about 40 minutes ago, while the Big Three were curled
up asleep on the furniture in the parlor. He poked around a bit, and
slowly they opened their eyes and noticed him. They've been smelling
him for two months, and for a month he was living in a big cage in the
parlor, with occasional forays into the parlor only, so they knew he was
here, but I suspect they hoped he'd stay sequestered in the guestroom,
where he's been for the past month.
There was some hissing, a little swatting, and one tense moment when the
three triangulated around him and he started to make some funny "Oh,
sh.t! I'm prey!" noises, but things calmed down, and now he's happily
playing with their toys while they watch.
I'm pretty happy. No-one tried to kill anyone else, Sebbie isn't
freaking out because I have the door to the basement closed, and young
master Francis may start learning some manners now. One thing he's
learning is not to get a favorite "new" toy too near one of the big cats
because they'll start verbally abusing him and make him leave it there!
I think another 30 minutes and then I may take him back upstairs. Or I
may just leave him out. I'm playing this by ear.

Sabina had fervently hoped that Debbie would go back to wherever she came
from, & Demelza had hoped infinitely more fervently (for years!) that Herrie
would manage to magically disappear. Only Debbie accepted Demelza - with
open paws - after a couple of weeks.

Sounds relatively peaceful so far.

Poor Sebbie is currently being chased up and down the stairs by little
Francis -- who never encountered stairs before 2 hours ago. Poor
Sebbie. He's the biggest of the three adults both in size and in
wuss-itude. He's my "freakazoid" because he's always freaking out. He
was a *real* feral, unlike Francis who was too young to know that humans
are the devil before I got my hands on him.

I really like the term "wuss-itude." I may just have to use it.

No blood no foul. ;~) I think I'd leave him out unless things got to be a
bit too hairy for *him*. You others have been smelling him, so the
"newness" isn't an issue. It's just the "my tail is NOT a toy and my space
is MINE" bit.

That's sort of what I'd arrived at. The big guys are all napping again
now, and Francis just came up to me for a nice cuddle and purr. When
it's dinner time, I'll take him up with his dinner, and then it'll be
bedtime for him. He should sleep well tonight!

Heh! That is it *precisely*!
