Just curious--how many of you have cats who love to be near you when
you're on the computer? Benny has never been a lap cat with me (though
he is with my SO at times), so I found it surprising when he recently
started jumping on my lap while I'm on the computer.
Don't get me wrong, I love his company and purrs, but wonder if
there's an attraction with the computer (sound? warmth?) or if the
chair is at the right height for him?

My cats do not bother me at the computer at all but all I have to do to
become Totally Delicious and Completely Irresistable is sit on the toilet
for a few minutes. They compete for the pleasure of rubbing up against my
legs. :)

Paul--I got "restricted access." I think you have to make the album public.
Something you click on.

Paul,
I don't have access to the site. Did you remember to "share" the
albums? (I ask because I've forgotten to do this myself.) :)

It worked! What a pretty baby. I especially like the "cat nap" one
where he has "scrunchy eyes."

Heh! Or maybe we are less threatening when they figure out that we also
poop. :) Who knows. But it amuses the hell out of me.

The only time Rowan becomes a real cuddler is when I'm at the computer (or
brushing my teeth, for some odd reason).
I believe it is because when she was a sickly baby, small enough to hold in
one hand, I would hold her and type at the same time. She slept in my hand at
the computer. Then my arm. Now she kinda tries to sleep on my arm, but takes
up the whole half of my body and hangs over, decides it's not that comfy any
more, and sits on the desk instead. *LOL*

yeah. Or a newspaper. Or a book. Or, for Pearl, playing the guitar. It is
like, "oh, you must have time to pet ME if you are just doing that."

Hey, another guitarist on this group.
One of my cats, "Fission" (no longer with us), was a real music lover.
She'd lie right between the stereo speakers and was particularly fond
of Pink Floyd. When I'd dig out my guitar, she'd watch me open the case...
pick up the guitar..... sit down .......and on the first note she'd turn and
run away so fast she'd leave skid marks. What a damn critic!

One of my cats routinely sits on my lap (or lies on the desk next to the
PC - & under the lamp) while I'm at the computer. I think it's just the
fact that I'm seated, staying in basically one position for "x" amount of
time.

My cat Otto is very lovable. He likes to cuddle up next to me in bed, but
he's not much of a lap cat. About 2 years ago, he decided that he would sit
in my lap only when I'm at the computer. He now does it pretty much every
day. He jumps up onto the paper shredder, then he puts his paws on my leg
to let me know that he wants me to push my chair out from under the desk so
he can climb in. He also loves the keyboard tray.
I think they just feel that humans spend entirely too much time staring at a
glowing box, and they'd be better off petting a cat.

One of my cats "has to" supervise the computer's printer, can recognize the
sound of it from the other end of the house & comes running to watch the paper
slide down, through & out.
A friend's cat evidently thinks the cursor is a bug on the screen & must watch
it. There will be trouble if that cat ever wants to 'kill' the bug on the LCD
screen.
What goes on in cats' heads is one of the great mysteries of the universe.

That's very cute :-)
Off on a tangent, but my cats come running from wherever they are in the
house (and frequently wherever they are outside) when they hear the sound of
their favourite "toy" in action. That toy is a length of the rigid packing
tape that gets stapled around boxes holding heavy items, such as computers.
I run round the lounge holding it and they try to catch it.
They developed this fascination with the stuff while still kittens and now,
with both approaching 10, the fascination is as strong as ever. Every now
and then I've bought them "proper" toys of the wind-up or mechanical mouse
variety, and they simply are not interested.
But if they hear the tape cupboard open, or if I look at them and ask "Do
you wanna play?" they get very, very excited!

The minute I sit down at the computer, Holly starts to walk back-and-forth
in front of the monitor...over and over again, then she will finally sit
down at the side of the keyboard (and most often with her rear end perched
firmly on my hand (which is trying to use the mouse). It's consistent and
constant. I think she thinks my attention should be devoted to her instead
of to the computer!

My cats love being near me too when I'm on the computer. One of my cats,
Mickey, is really just waiting for me to play with him. If I don't give him
the proper attention, first he'll put his arms around my neck and rub his head
on my head. If I'm still not paying proper attention, he starts biting the top
of my head. Now THAT always gets my attention :)
