We have a beautiful 15 year old small framed cat and this year her
temperament has completely changed. Our dog has brought in some fleas
this year and we applied a flea powder to the cat which has always
worked. Maybe we were a little late in realizing she had the fleas as
bad as she did but looking into her white fur, were unable to see any
and not even the residue they normally leave. The bites are mostly
around her neck and are not getting any worse but her behavior has
changed to the point she wouldn't go upstairs anymore (where the dog
sleeps at night) and stayed in the basement for couple of weeks and
now seems happy on the back of out love seat. She is eating and using
the litter box just fine but she cleans herself vigorously at times
like she seems to be itching. She settles down and sleeps well. Is
this normal behavior, seems a strange question after 15 years but
thought I would through this out to see if anyone has any comments.
Thanks, Sandra.

Hi Sandra,
I don't know if it's from the fleas, the flea powder you used or a combination
of both. But I would definitely take her to the vet and let them prescribe
something for the fleas.
Good luck,
Lauren

One of our cats once had fleas very bad -- I couldn't believe it when I
finally realized what was going on. He had flea allergies and was miserable.
We didn't notice it right away, we had just moved into a new house. He
was very aloof and stayed away from us in another room, where normally
he'd be with us all the time. His behavior returned to normal when the
fleas were gone. I'm wondering if they are bothering your cat more now
that she's a little older.
You might want to use something more effective than powder. It can be
hard to reach all of them with that stuff. Have you tried Advantage?
