I'm not familiar with the "Humane Equity Fund", but there are a few other funds
that are listed as "socially responsible". You may want to search at
www.morningstar.com and see what funds pop up.
I will also say, though, that most, if not all, "socially responsible" funds tend
to be horrible financial performers. People who invest in them give up a great
deal of capital appreciation to get that warm - fuzzy feeling.
My suggestion would be to invest in a fund that regularly meets of exceeds
the performance of the Dow or the S&P 500. Then teach your son to use his
accumulated wealth in a socially responsible way.
I, BTW, trade stocks for a living and am only concerned about what buy - sell
is going to make me money. But I use that money in a socially responsible way,
including an annual 4 figure donation to the Massachusetts SPCA's Pet Care
Assistance Fund to help people get care for their pets when they can't afford it
