My 4-year old Siamese cat started to lose its fur on her belly. The bold spot
is getting bigger and bigger. Is it a serious condition? Is it contageous?
What can I do to help her?

My cat Cheeky came to me with a bald tummy and I thought her spay spot just
didn't grow back. Well, I have had her three years now and the spot has
spread. Now when she sits her little pink bald KNEES shine at me. And she
has licked the fur from one side of her body, and the back of both legs.
This little cat has allergies, asthma, and a condition called linear
granuloma--all allergy related things. She has the Siamese head shape though
she is a tabby--and the very slight build, long tail and legs. There may be
something in Siamese that predisposes them to allergies, or so I have heard.
She gets Depo Medrol shots about 2-4 times a year, and did NOT lick any fur
off except of her tummy for her first 2.9 years here, so I am not sure her
licking is allergy related.
Our other cat has been invading her turf lately, but there are no outright
conflicts. My vet can find nothing wrong and says she is just grooming
compulsively. I could put her on a kitty anti-anxiety drug, but I hesitate
because I don't want her on to many druggs. Her bald skin is healthy and
lovely, anyway ;).
My advice: take your cat to the vet to see what he says. Could be a food
allergy, or something you could correct by changing litter or taking your
down comforter off the bed. Good luck and keep us posted. I am not sure what
I will do about my little Sphinx wanna be. She's showing nearly as much skin
as Britney Spears.

Maybe it's what they call a *hot spot* and your cat is constantly
licking there or maybe it is something else and your vet should look
at it.
I wouldn't worry about it being contagious unless your belly fur is
really important to you :-)

OMG! Are you saying that *my* belly fur might be in jeopardy? It's one of my
best features. So thick and luxurious.

Take her to a vet.

My cat has been doing this for years. It is almost never a condition
or a disease. Usually cats start out doing this when they are a bit
stressed about something, then it just turns into a habit for them.
This is what my vet told me.
For my cat, it started when we brought home a puppy. It took a while
for the kitty to get used to the dog, but by that time it had
developed a habit of licking the fur off its belly.

I would just suggest taking the cat to the vet. It could be an allergy like
someone else said (contact allergy) or ring-worm?

She could be allergic to something. My Siamese developed an allergy to
fish, which maniifested itself by her pulling and scratching out the fur
on her neck and shoulders.
