I have 4 foster kittens who have had diarrhea/soft poop (at best) since they
were trapped in August. FWIW at their age, they tested negative for FIV
FeLV. They have been wormed and their stool was checked and came back clear
for parasites. I'm using Swheat Scoop litter so the litter shouldn't be a
factor as regular clumping litter might. I switched them from SD kitten food
to Royal Canin kitten food with no improvement in consistency - there is
just less of it. I started giving them a little yogurt this week and their
poop is still like cow flop although the smell has improved. These guys are
probably 3 - 3 1/2 mo old. Shouldn't they be having formed stools? They
otherwise appear healthy and energetic.

Any suggestions? Should I even be worrying about this?

Kittens often ingest litter. Wheat litter has a lot of fiber and can
cause loose stools. I would recommend changing litter to something
else. Since they are probably eating some, I wouldn't try a pine
litter. Paper pellets would probably be safest. Just until they are a
a bit older and not prone to eating. Think of how a small child
explores his world by putting everything into his mouth.

Giardia and coccidia are rampant in most of our rescues.  Either can be hard
to diagnose accurately. It's best to treat the symptoms and see if that
improves the poop.  Ask your vet about a course of metronizadole and
panacur.

The yogurt might be helping. The dh said he actually scooped a formed stool
from the box last night. If that doesn't continue I'll see what the vet has
to say.
