Damn. Nipsy didn't come for breakfast today.

Yesterday morning I woke up to find that someone had upchucked twice
in the bed, in areas frequented by Nipsy and Jackie. I assumed it was
Jackie because she is the one with the diarrhea and all.

But this morning Nipsy didn't come to eat. I picked him up off the bed
and put him on the floor and he walked into the hall. Then he turned
around and jumped back onto the bed.

He doesn't feel hot and his nose is cold and wet (which my vet has
said in the past doesn't mean squat). I just never know what to do in
this situation. I opened his mouth and his teeth look fine. He doesn't
seem to be in any discomfort. I picked him up and put him on the
platform by the window next to Espy (Espy is almost always looking out
the window into the backyard). He stuck his nose out the window (there
is a screen) and he lay there next to Espy with his tail wagging like
normal.

Yesterday he was normal, we all spent an hour in the backyard after I
got home. He has been digging at something in the middle of the lawn.
Quite a hole in fact. Perhaps he ate something that doesn't agree with
him? As of last night he ate normally and was chasing around Espy.

So it's 6am, I have to be at work at 8. The vet doesn't open till 8. I
just never know what to do when this happens. Well, I'm at work now
and Nipsy is at home. I made an appointment for 5 pm and if he doesn't
greet me at the door, off we go. I just wish they could talk.

Mine get like this when  hairball is coming. I would see how he does later
today. If he wouldn't eat tomorrow, then I would get him in tomorrow.

Yes, that could be the case. My cats rarely seem to get hairballs but
Nipsy is a longhair and there must be plenty in that big gullet.
Oddly, he never seems to shed. Espy, a shorthair, provides a carpet
for whatever room he is occupying.

I'm just going to try not to worry today and hope that everything is
fine when I get home.

If you keep Nipsy inside you can monitor what goes in Nipsy's mouth (for the
most part.) You wouldn't have to worry about him eating toxic substances.

I agree with not letting cats run lose, but that isn't the case here.
I have a fenced in backyard that the boys (and girl) can't get out of.
There isn't anything that can harm them as far is I can tell. I don't
use pesticides on the vegetables nor poison on the lawn. The worst
that they can get is some tasty bug.

Well, good news, apparently I fretted too early. I came home, Nipsy
and Espy met me at the door as always. Normally we just go outside
until it gets dark but I put out food first just to see what would
happen. Nipsy ate like normal and then headed for the back door, so I
canceled the vet appointment.

I'm looking around for a hairball but I don't see one anywhere. That
doesn't mean there isn't one. Every once in a while I find a petrified
hb behind some furniture.

May have just pooped it out. Glad he's better!

Not to but a damper on things..but in NY one has to be aware of possible
scenarios.  There are a lot of kooks here, so....one's pet cat (allowed in
one's backyard) can be another's pain in the arse.  A deranged neighbor could
toss in a bit of poison in your yard.  It's a bit harder for said neighbor to
toss in a bit of poison in your house.

I suppose there is some risk of that, although I'm on good terms with
my neighbors, and the cats don't cause any problems. Still, they love
being outside and lying under the bushes and watching the birds and
squirrels. Just smelling stuff. I think the minor risk that some kook
will harm them is more than offset by their enjoyment of being
outside.

For the most part, if they are outside, so am I.
