odd sneezing and snorting

Hi everyone,

This is the first time I have posted here. I have been trying to figure
out what's going on with this one particlur kitty that I have been taking
care of for a friend. Anyhow, she seems to have these sneezing fits and
contantly seems to have a stuffed up nose. There is no bad yellow
discharge that I have ever seen. Her left eye seems to water allot. She
sneezes for no reason at all. But it is constant. She makes snorting
sounds as well.

She seems to eat ok at times. Doesn't seem to have any loss of appetite.
She drinks water just fine. Though when she does eat or drink she sounds
like a, excuse the expression, piggy chowing down. She is not over
weight.

I am at my wits end in trying to figure out what's going on with her short
of taking her to the vet.

If anyone has any information they can provide on this issue, I'd greatly
appreciate it.

What breed?
Is she a flat-faced cat, like some varieties of Persian and Himalayan?
If so, there may be nothing more going on than the usual issues with those
types of cats.

She could have any number of the usual upper respiratory infections. Most of
these go away by themselves, but some cats need the support of vet care to
fully recover. Some never do, having the URI recur at times of stress.

She could have allergies, an infection, a broken nose (or had one that
healed funny), or any number of issues from minor to major.
Only a vet could really tell you what's up. We can only guess.

Adelaides diagnosis,

I am extremely sad to report that Adelaide has a tumor in her nasal
passage. The Vet said, it's good thing I brought her in cause she did need
to be on antibiotics. Whether the tumor is malignant or not is being
determinded. So in the mean time I'll do all I can for her to make her
comfy and make sure she is eating enough etc...

I dont know what I am going to do at the moment. I am a little bit
overwhelmed by the news.

Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions and time.

I'll keep you and Adelaide in my prayers. I sincerely hope that the tumor is
benign and can be removed or shrunk.

Oh, dear, I'm very sorry.  I hope it winds up being not as serious as you are
thinking right now.  How old is Adelaide?  This seems pretty uncommon, right?
Please keep us posted on what's going in with her.

First -- take her to a Vet to rule things out.  2. feed her premium
food such as Wellness or chicken soup for cat lovers' soul. 3. do you
have an air cleaner? one of those big hepa ones? I use several in my
house
for my allergies, they also get rid of a lot of odors. Also a good
room deodorizer
is "Ozium" comes in a tall, thin, blue and white spray can and can be
gotten in
the auto section of Wal Mart, or at any car wash. (don't use Lysol
around cats)
this doesn't put a scent in the air, it actually kills odors. Also,
one of the gel room
deodorants comes in ozium, they call it "super odor killer" but it's
permeated with
ozium.  It too comes in a blue and white package.

I have 7 cats and you rarely smell "cat" in my house.

How long has it been going on?
leopard - 22 Sep 2004 03:17 GMT
Thanks for all the replies. This has been going on for a while now. I'd say
about 3 months. At first I wasn't concerned just thought it might be an
allergy of some sort. She is a mixed breed kitty. Not persian. Doesn't
have that pushed in face. I think she is just a med/long hair tabby. Real
pretty kitty.

I think I should take her to the vet as suggested to out rule any thing
that might not be so previlant.

I will post the vet findings in a few days.

I do have another question, Why not use Lysol spray around Kitty?

PS: Pardon my manners, her name is Adelaide.

The droplets of the spray land on the floor.  The main ingredient
is phenol.  The cat licks it off his feet.  It can cause liver
damage or brain damage.

Oh I had no idea about lysol. Thank you for your enlightment on that.

Well I take Adelaide to the vet this arvo. I will let everyone know what
it is that is going on with her.

Thank you again for all your replies.
