Rob - 20 Sep 2004 03:27 GMT Giant thanks to Megan for spending her time on the phone tonight helping my wife and I out with our cats' diet. I need to buy lots of Wellness. The cheapest I've been able to find it is actually locally for $20.99/case of 24 5.5oz cans ($0.87/can). I almost ALWAYS find products cheaper on the internet with froogle or shopping.yahoo.com or dealtime or others, but I'm having zero luck with this one. I've found it slightly cheaper per can ($0.83), but once shipping is added in, it's way over. Anyone have any luck with buying it online, or stores that carry it that take coupons or some such? Thanks!

I don't know what it works out to, but if you buy from Petfooddirect.com, they start sending you 20% and 13% off coupons by email quite regularly. For me it just about knocks off shipping on my Petguard but it is still cheaper than buying it at the store. Right now, it is almost even, and less hassle for me to buy it at the store, but if the price increases, it will *definitely* be cheaper. You could check it out anyway.

You could check it out anyway. the coupons could make the difference. i had that website on my list, the cheapest way to buy there is the 12.5 oz cans, so i had to break it down to price per oz. locally it would be .151 cents/oz, thru petfooddirect before shipping it's .133cents/oz, but add in shipping and youre at .179cents/oz. Knock 20% and you're at .143cents/oz which is about a 5% savings and no gas money spent driving 15 miles to the pet store. Are the coupons one use only with a personal code, or something you can share? Thanks for letting me know they do that.
MaryL - 20 Sep 2004 08:16 GMT > >> Giant thanks to Megan for spending her time on the phone tonight helping > >> my [quoted text clipped - 27 lines] > pet store. Are the coupons one use only with a personal code, or something > you can share? Thanks for letting me know they do that. I also buy online through www.petfooddirect.com. Once you are on their list, they will frequently send either 13% or 20% discount codes. You have to read your email regularly because each code is valid for only 2 or 3 days. I called their toll-free number the first time I ordered and asked if I would be eligible for the discount. The woman I talked to was very helpful and gave me the 20% discount. In fact, she had to search through her database to get the correct code because it seems that they send different codes to different regions. They ship promptly, and everything is carefully packed.
I order both Wellness (several varieties) and Felidae from Petfooddirect. Felidae costs $21.49 for a case of 24 5.5 oz. cans; Wellness costs. $23.49 for a case of 24 5.5 oz. cans. The 20% discount is almost the exact equivalent of shipping. This means that your local price is slightly less -- and you are getting the best price I have seen so far (a very good buy if you are able to get several varieties). Unfortunately, neither Wellness nor Felidae is carried in any store within reasonable driving distance, so I order mine delivered. It would be slightly cheapter in the 12.5 oz. cans, but I find the 5.5 oz. cans to be more convenient.
You have made a good selection for you cat food. I had to be patient and persistent when I changed Holly and Duffy's diet from freefed dry food to carefully measured canned food, but it has been well worth it. Both cats are now satisfied with their food, and they are thriving. They are healthy, energetic, and have beautiful coats. Holly's dandruff completely disappeared, and their weight is now completely stable.
Good luck!

You have [quoted text clipped - 26 lines] > > MaryL After reading this thread I decided to check out PetFoodDirect.com. There's a link on the top of the page for an automatic 5% discount without a coupon code. I put a few cases of Wellness (5.5oz) into the basket and with the shipping and 5% discount, it was almost the same as what I can get it for locally, maybe a couple of dollars less. Then I did a search for coupon codes and found this site: http://www.ahugedeal.com/PetFoodDirect-coupons.php . I went back to PetFoodDirect and removed the 5% coupon and entered the code for 13% off, and added a few more cases of 5.5 and 3 oz cans. I got 2 cases of Wellness 5.5oz, 1 case of Felidae 5.5oz and 2 cases of Science Diet 3 oz cans. My 13% discount was $12.80 and shipping (to NYC) was $8.49, so I'm definitely saving money. I just looked at my receipt and saw that I'm not being charged sales tax, so that saves even more.
I live in The Bronx and work in Manhattan. No store where I live sells Wellness, Felidae etc. There's a store a couple of blocks from work that carries many of the better brands so I usually buy there. I still have to lug it all home, but ordering online will now save me the trip to/from the store. I'll still have to carry it home, since I can't have it delivered to my apartment (not home all day).
Now all I have to do is get my boss' credit card, and start ordering online for the cats at work!

Megan has been helping me too--and I'm (er, the cats) are now on Wellness too. Your local price sounds decent. The cheapest I found in my area is .95 per can, so I'm buying locally. However, I discovered a friend, who lives an hour away, found it for .85 per can--so whenever we visit each other I'll stock up.
Another thought--do any of your local stores have "punch cards" or discount cards. The one I'm using has a punch card that, once it's filled you get a discount on the next purchase. It's a little something anyway.

Barb - 21 Sep 2004 03:39 GMT I am paying about $1 per can for Wellness locally which figures to about $60 per month not to mention the dry food which I give for a light dinner. Getting a couple dollars off of 20 cans doesn't seem like much. One pet store does let me buy a case but like I said it makes little difference in the price. I love my three cats so this is how it has to be.
-- Barb Of course I don't look busy, I did it right the first time.

[quoted text clipped - 5 lines] > any luck with buying it online, or stores that carry it that take coupons > or some such? Thanks! I just got back from the place sort of near my house and it was even cheaper than they told me over the phone! $18.29/case (or $0.76/can)!!! That's the marked price, I tried to talk them into giving me a discount as well but apparently the clerk didn't have that kind of leeway. Still, no complaints here. I walked out with 10 cases.... my wife is going to kill me. I spent $55 on groceries for us yesterday, and $183 on groceries for the cats. In case anyone else is interested, It's located in tax-free Atkinson, NH right on the MA border.

Rob - 22 Sep 2004 17:58 GMT errrr.....make that $18.24 a case, just found my receipt.

Prices on the net *without* coupons are about the same, with the shipping.
The problem with buying from the net with discount coupons is that the cans with a batch number starting with GW instead of W have a different texture, color, smell (and presumably flavor), and my cats don't like the GW batches nearly as much. They used to have all W batches, and no GW batches locally, but at least here, not that they're mixed, I can pick and choose the ones with W.
I just did another search from OldMotherHubbard.com, and found a few other vendors not too far out of my way, so I'm going to call around about their prices.

I was under the impression from OMH that the GW batches were discontinued, or recalled? Perhaps the online vendors are just getting rid of it rather than sending it back to OMH for replacements? OMH realized that many people were dissatisfied with the GW batch (they added rice to the mix to make it less runny, and they *said* it was in beta and not meant for release).

I don't know if the current problem is the same as the original problem with GW batches, but the W batches are smooth and light in color. The GW batches are much darker, grainy with more separated liquid, and they don't smell as nice. I'm seeing both W and GW batches sold in all the poultry/poultry&seafood flavors at 4 local dealers for Wellness.
I had also seen the problem of different quality batches in the mixed seafood flavors, but they use a different kind of numbering, so I couldn't tell which was what, and since they are somewhat higher in carb than the poultry ones (one cat is diabetic), I stopped buying them.
If I had a way of knowing which were the smooth ones, I would let my cats have them occasionally. But while they really loved the smooth batches of mixed seafood, they hated the grainy batches of it much more than they disliked the grainy GW batches of poultry flavors.
Meanwhile, I just found two places in Austin TX selling Wellness a lot cheaper than the $1.03/can (5.5 oz) I've been paying.
The Cat Hospital of Austin -- 88 cents a can Horizon Pets -- 89 cents a can, or mixed case at 84 cents a can

I just checked my last receipt and I'm paying $22.56/case for Wellness at Seaworld in Salem, NH. Stateline is a bit out of my way, but with the price difference and the fact that I hate giving any money to Seaworld (kinda skanky pet store that sells every imaginable animal), I'll start making buying trips to Stateline. I wish Petsmart would sell Wellness.

---MIKE--- - 25 Sep 2004 23:11 GMT I buy Wellness by the case. The GW batch had a different texture but I found that adding a little water softened it up so the cats would eat it. I did return one case however. I called OMH and they said the formula was the same but the GW cans had been processed at a different facility and the problem was being corrected. I think OMH is aware of all the customers that Nutro lost when they changed their formula. They don't want that to happen to them! The only problem I have now is when I split a can between the two cats, they want more. They are a little overweight so they can't have it.

Barb - 26 Sep 2004 19:26 GMT 76 cents a can is a real score! I pay $1 and can't run from NY to NH for cat food.
The W versus GW was a great tip. I wondered why sometimes my three could wolf down a can of the wellness for one meal and other times they ate some and walked away. Now I look for the W before I select the cans.

I know how you feel, I'm coming from Newburyport :). When you go there, you'll see it on the left right after you cross into New Hampshire on 121. It's not the building you see though, pull into that parking lot then follow the road with the cat footprints painted on it down under the bridge.
