Hi,

I have just posted to alt.binaries.pictures.animals some images of my
two year old cat MAGI.

She has a health issue in the form of a "portal systemic shunt" but is
doing very well with phenobarbitone for her seizures and various
supplements to keep healthy.

You can see the 'copper coloured iris' effect in her eyes. This has
abated somewhat so they are more of a brown colour now.

She sure looks young. I suppose because of her condition. SHe is a cutie!

>She sure looks young. I suppose because of her condition. SHe is a cutie!

When we saw her she was quite small. I did not believe she was
actually two years old. Apparently the original owners fed her on
nothing but tuna and found her violent nature frightening and her
seizures difficult.

It's true she was quite aggressive. I once made the mistake of shining
my mobile phone backlight in her direction when I had a late-night
call. She nearly took my head off, really lunged at me. We thought she
was half-blind and half-crazy. Very frightening!

However, it is very true what people say here. That if you look after
an 'unhome-able' rescue-cat  cat and pay close attention to its health
and medication needs AND with a strong measure of genuine love and
affection; then the fiercest cat will come around. She has gone from a
vicious cat where you put the food down and ran to being something
gentle you can pick up and freely nuzzle. She follows us around
everywhere and I'm always sad when the medication makes her so sleepy
she has to retire when she should really be up playing and biffing
with the other cats.

Strange though that the protein she needed to grow was slowly killing
her. Anyway she is growing now and really enjoys double cream. It is
high in fat so high in calories and definately helps her put on the
weight.

My next goal with MAGI is to get her into a frame where she really
enjoys being groomed. I'm not that happy with the state of her fur as
she does not groom as well as she should. She can only take a few
brush strokes before we get the 'brush-off' from her. I think it's
important to give a cat that experiences ill health a lot of personal
space and, so far, it seems to be working.

Actually, I'm very proud of MAGI and glad the Celia Hammond cat trust
put her our way.

It's wonderful that you took the time to really work with Magi and get her
to a place where she can feel comfortable with humans.  I'm glad she found
you.  My little Ana was found in a storm drain.  I think it's a miracle that
she stayed alive as long as she did.  She was all skin and bones when she
was first brought to the shelter.

I looked at her pictures, what a cutie!!  Her eyes are very similar to my
PSS kitten, Ana.  Here's a picture of her where you can see the eye color.

It's not the best picture, but she tends to blink or turn her head when I
take a photo.

She's doing pretty well.  She's a little sleepier than most kittens her age
are, but she gets bursts of energy and will run around and chase my adult
cats.  I had two other foster kittens here and she loved playing with them.
The vet put her on lactulose to help keep the ammonia levels down in her
blood, and she's gained 1 lb over the past month.  I'm hoping Ana can live a
somewhat normal life.

A 1lb in a month is quite good, our MAGI took a bit longer than that.

Wow! ANA is beautiful. I like that grey & white look.

Don't you think though that the ... hypnotic eye colouration she has
gives ANA a strong sense of character?

I find myself just gazing at my own MAGI's eyes sometimes.

If I do it to long she wacks me with her paw or kisses me with her wet
nose but I can't really help it. My other cats all have or have had
the green or orange looking eyes but the copper look is certainly
impressive even though it is a sign of not-wellness.

I read on the web that some cat breeders have actually tried to breed
in that kind of copper-eyed look. I could see it would be impressive
in some of those specially bred cats.

My cats have caught onto that as well, whenever I pull out the camera
they pose perfectly then just turn away at the last second!

I think they do it to angle for a bigger treat quicker! MAGI jerks
when she experiences the flash of the camera so I try to avoid flash
photography with her.

Her eyes were one of the first things I noticed about her.  Grey and white
cats usually have the normal green eyes.

I saw on a British Shorthair breed standard page that they are supposed to
have copper-colored eyes, but I think they mean more of the dark orange
color, not really the copper-brown color of a PSS cat.

One of my cats runs when he hears me turn the camera on.  I have lots of
pictures of his backside. LOL!
